Matt O’Riley’s teammate namechecked with Celtic, he’s rejected Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham

Celtic are expected to be pretty busy as the January transfer window draws to a close.

Before the winter window opened, there was a lot of noise about what was going to happen from Kieran Tierney to Kyogo Furuhashi.

During the opening weeks, nothing much happened, other than a few outgoing loans here and there.

But ever since Celtic beat Young Boys in the Champions League, it has all flipped on its head, and gone haywire, including Kyogo leaving for Rennes and Jota returning.

With that void in the goalscoring department, many Celtic fans are hoping and expecting that the powers that be back Brendan Rodgers and bring in a much-needed centre-forward.

Even when Kyogo was at the club, Rodgers was speaking about wanting three strikers, so he certainly needs one now.

One surprise name popped up on Go Radio, as mentioned by Barry Ferguson.

Evan Ferguson namechecked in a possible Celtic move

Matt O’Riley left Celtic and joined Brighton in the summer, with his teammate Evan Ferguson namechecked, alongside the Bhoys on Go Radio.

Barry Ferguson claimed that the Republic of Ireland star has been ‘linked’ with the champions of Scotland and he stated that he would be ‘surprised’ if Celtic don’t replace Kyogo.

“I listened to Brendan Rodgers do an interview the other day and this has been on-going for a number of months,” said Ferguson about Kyogo’s exit.

“He knew that it was Kyogo’s desire to leave the club. I don’t think they would allow him to leave if they don’t have a replacement. I would be very surprised if they don’t sign somebody.

“I have seen they have been linked with Evan Ferguson at Brighton, who burst onto the scene last season or the season before. He has had a few injuries this season. I was surprised because he (Kyogo) was a big player. If Celtic were playing Rangers and Kyogo was that number nine position, you were always worried because he was a top player, in my eyes. He came here and scored many a goal for Celtic and produced the goods.”

Ange Postecoglou is finding life difficult at Tottenham, as he faces an injury crisis, including the absence of his star striker, Dominic Solanke.

Interestingly enough, Kyogo was offered to Spurs, but they rejected the chance and they have also been linked with Ferguson.

But, according to the Telegraph, the Brighton star doesn’t want that move because he feels he wouldn’t get enough game time when Solanke returns to action.
