Celtic fans are anticipating the imminent arrival of Kasper Schmeichel on a free transfer to fill the goalkeeping void left by Joe Hart.

After leaving Anderlecht this summer, where he prevented 14.36 goals across the Jupiler Pro League 2023/24 campaign, he is set to seal a dramatic reunion with Brendan Rodgers once his move is ratified.

Schmeichel will sign a one-year contract at Celtic with the option for an extra 12 months in Glasgow. His medical is imminent, with reports last week suggesting it could take place over the next few days.

More details have now emerged on that process and when fans can expect to see the Denmark international link up with his prospective new teammates.

According to Tipsbladet, Schmeichel will undergo medical checks in Italy and has been pencilled in to complete these examinations on Tuesday.

Originally, the plan was for the one-time Premier League winner to complete all tests over the weekend; however, clinics on Italian soil have moved the process to tomorrow.

Excitingly, once Schmeichel has completed his medical, he is scheduled to fly out to join Celtic on their three-match tour of the United States this Thursday.

Provided everything goes to plan, there is potential for the Copenhagen-born veteran to make his debut against either DC United, Manchester City or Chelsea, albeit the first clash may come too soon. Rodgers will be the judge of that.

All going well, Celtic will have a new goalkeeper in situ following a prolonged search for a talented glovesman to steady the last line of defence.

Reports today have also revealed that Viljami Sinisalo could join the Bhoys from Aston Villa, which would provide the manager with two competent stoppers possessing a blend of youth and experience.

Once these two transfers are concluded, hopefully, Rodgers can move on to firming up quality in several other areas across the squad.
