Celtic are hard at work trimming the excess fat off what has become a bloated squad under Brendan Rodgers.

Yosuke Ideguchi departed on a permanent deal earlier this month to Vissel Kobe. At the same time, Rodgers will watch Hyeokkyu Kwon and Adam Montgomery from a short distance after they completed loan switches to St Mirren and Motherwell, respectively.

Gustaf Lagerbielke could also head to Serie A outfit Lecce if his current deadlock situation is resolved before the deadline.

The Sweden international looked all set to head to Stadio Ettore Giardiniero before a suspected injury to Cameron Carter-Vickers put a pause on negotiations between both parties.

Incredibly, one-club man James Forrest is said to be someone that Rodgers could look to move on in the final day, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

Speaking on the radio station, the journalist for the outlet stated: “It looks like Celtic could be quite busy. I have just been told in the last few minutes they are open to offers for James Forrest.”

Mikey Johnston set to join Celtic deadline day departures

Mikey Johnston has fought back from the periphery this term and worked his way slowly into Rodgers’ side mainly off the bench, registering two goals and two assists in 12 appearances across all competitions [Transfermarkt].

Initial reports from respected journalist Stephen McGowan had indicated that West Bromwich Albion were keen on the Republic of Ireland international, who is still quite far behind in the pecking order at Parkhead.

Now, John Percy of The Telegraph has followed up on speculation, saying that the 24-year-old is now on his way to the Hawthorns and will ‘undergo’ his medical ahead of finalising a loan switch to the Baggies.

West Brom will be a good move for Celtic star Mikey Johnston

Stockpiling players at the club isn’t going to help their development without regular involvement, which has never fully materialised for Johnston at Celtic.

Whether it be due to injuries or form, the Glasgow-born winger has always found himself on the fringes at Parkhead. Another loan move will help him to increase his minutes in a different environment with less of a spotlight on his shoulders.

If he does well, his value increases, and upon his return, Rodgers can decide on whether to keep him around for the long term or to cut him loose permanently.

Nicolas Kuhn’s arrival would’ve also made his opportunities deteriorate if he were to stick around, making a departure a sensible call by all parties.
