Celtic are weighing up a move for Orgryte defender Michael Parker after the 21-year-old impressed in Sweden.

As most of Celtic’s transfer rumours surround bringing reinforcements in for the attacking areas of the team, Martin O’Neill is also looking to beef up his back line.

The Celtic boss likes big, strong defenders and Parker has been impressing in Sweden, and now, Orgryte address the speculation surrounding Parker as interest grows from England.

Orgryte sporting director on Michael Parker amid Celtic interest

Speaking ahead of this weekend’s match against Kalmar, sporting director Pontus Farnerud admitted clubs have already approached Orgryte about Parker.

Farnerud told Fotbollskanalen, “There is interest in Michael. Clubs have contacted me.

“He has a strong profile and possesses qualities that make him attract interest, but at the moment, all focus for both Michael and the club is the match against Kalmar this weekend.

“Have there been any offers for him? No comment.”

While Farnerud doesn’t specifically mention Celtic, the Parkhead club now know that if they decide to make their move, they face stiff competition for his signature.

Who is Celtic-linked defender Michael Parker?

Parker came through the youth systems at Cray Valley and Huddersfield Town before joining Shrewsbury Town, where he progressed into senior football.

A move to West Bromwich Albion followed in 2024, although his first-team opportunities came during a loan spell at Hereford rather than at The Hawthorns.

Orgryte signed the left-footed centre-back on a permanent deal for free earlier this year and he has quickly established himself in Sweden.

Standing 6ft 4in, Parker has featured regularly in the Allsvenskan and his performances have sparked interest from a number of clubs during the summer window.
