The dark clouds are still hovering above Celtic Park following the appointment of Wilfried Nancy.

Even though Brendan Rodgers resigned in October and was verbally battered by Dermot Desmond as he left the building, the Celtic supporters are still protesting against the board.

On Sunday, Wilfried Nancy took charge of his first Celtic match, losing to Hearts, as Pat Bonner wants some clarity from those in the boardroom, especially the main man, Desmond.

Pat Bonner calls out Dermot Desmond and asks for transparency after Wilfried Nancy’s appointment

Everyone saw and read Desmond’s statement when Rodgers left, in which he said that Celtic’s trophy-winning coach had the final say on transfer matters, despite his supposed cries in the media.

Speaking on BBC Radio Scotland (07/12/25), Bonner isn’t so sure, as he called for the powers that be to be ‘absolutely transparent’ on who is making the final calls on transfers.

Whether it’s the manager, Nancy? Sleeping beauty, Paul Tisdale? Or anybody else, for that matter. Bonner challenged those in charge to speak up.

“On that point, that is key,” stated Bonner. “There is a lot of talk from Dermot Desmond about Brendan, and Brendan had control of that area.

“People were questioning that. Brendan was questioning that himself. Do you really believe Brendan wouldn’t go and sign a player before the game against Almaty? They were holding off. The risk was taken, and it didn’t work out.

“There are a lot of questions around that area still to be answered. Is it this manager who is going to be making the final decision? Or is it Tisdale? Or whoever else? Is there a committee going?

“I would love Celtic to be absolutely transparent on that. This is what we are doing. This is the future. This is how we are going to do it. And we will lose our one based on that system. Don’t leave it so everybody is trying to speculate about it.”

Celtic’s January transfer window

From the get-go, there will be a lot of pressure on the Celtic board to back Nancy because, even before he walked through the doors, the squad needs added quality.

But given the nature of the winter transfer window, the fact that it lasts only a month, you can only get so much business done.

So, what areas are the priority for Celtic? And do the Hoops hold out against selling any players, such as Daizen Maeda?
