Celtic are continuing to be busy in the transfer market ahead of the Premiership opener next month.
Preparations have been well under way for Celtic’s home clash against St Mirren on August 3, with a total of 12 players leaving Brendan Rodgers’ squad.
The latest departure has been Luis Palma joining Lech Poznań on a season-long loan deal, as the wide areas continue to be chopped and changed in a dramatic fashion.
Nicolas Kuhn’s big-money exit was the most high-profile of them all, after he joined Como in Serie A.
And now, another Celtic player who has struggled to make a name for himself, Marco Tilio, is also heading for the exit door.

Celtic fans react to Marco Tilio set to join SK Rapid
Celtic have done prior deals with Rapid Wien because that’s where they signed Kuhn from during the 2024 January transfer window.
But now, Tilio is set to join the Austrian club until the end of the season, and if he makes ’20 competitive starts’, he will secure a £1.3 million transfer to SK Rapid.
The Celtic supporters feel this is the right move for the winger because it hasn’t worked out for him in Glasgow.
@oihantxabarri praised Celtic for not losing money on Tilio: ‘Recouping the fee for a player that hasn’t broken into the first team in two years is pretty good.’
@4done6togo thinks wingers will be coming in: ‘Tilio and Palma away, we must be bringing wingers in soon, surely.’
@SteveMcGrory2 feels it was just never going to work out for Tilio: ‘Good luck, Marco! It was never gonna work out at Celtic. Hopefully it means we have a new winger coming in this week.’
@20MinuteTims hopes Tilio can make something of his career: ‘It’s not worked out for Tilio in Glasgow, but this is a move to a decent club, hope he can make something of it.’
@CraigCelt analysed Celtic’s ‘project signing’: ‘Marco leaves having played only 28 minutes of competitive football for Celtic. A cameo against Motherwell in a 1-1 draw and 27 minutes against Hibernian in a 4-1 win. Another project signing that hasn’t worked out. I wish him all the best in Austria.’
@GerryKiely thinks it’s a win-win situation for all: ‘Good deal for all involved.’
Another Celtic fan wishing Tilio the best, as @corrieflood93 added: ‘Probably the best for all parties here. Had high hopes when we signed him, but it just hasn’t worked for Tilio for one reason or the other. Wish him all the best for the future.’
@A67CFC described Celtic’s 2023 summer transfer window, which included Tilio’s arrival: ‘That 2023 window should go down as the worst ever in our history. Pitiful.’
@Calvin99705 jokingly fears what could happen with Tilio at Rapid: ‘Watch them start him in 19 games.’
Another Celtic fan agrees that Tilio has done the right thing, as stated: ‘Good luck to him. Was never going to work out for him at Celtic. Best for everyone, he gets the move. Same for Palma.’
Celtic sure know how to sell a player, as @anmcd90 added: ‘Looks like Celtic will make their money back on a player who never looked like being anywhere near the first team. Fine. Next.’
@LiamDey with a brutal take on Tilio: ‘If we get that money back for him, then Christ on a bike, Arguably the worst winger we’ve ever signed.’
Tilio’s unforgettable Celtic spell
There have been a fair few players who joined Celtic in Rodgers’ first season back, who have gone on to not just struggle, but flop in Glasgow.
Tilio can be added to that list, as he managed a total of 28 minutes in the famous green and white colours.
- Games: 2 (against Motherwell and Hibernian at Parkhead)
- Starts: 0
- Minutes: 28
- Goals: 0
- Assists: 0
Yes, some of these ‘project’ signings go on to become gems at Celtic, and make the club millions and millions.
But there is also the downside, and unfortunately for Tilio, he falls into that category.
