Red Star Belgrade lay out plan for Celtic target Veljko Milosavljevic in a bid to fight off interest from European clubs

Celtic are one of the many clubs interested in promising Red Star Belgrade defender Veljko Milosavljevic.

The 17-year-old is the third-youngest debutant in Red Star history after making his debut aged 16 years, three months and 20 days in 2023 during a 6-0 win against Trayal and regarded by many in Serbia as one of the club’s biggest talents.

Red Star have a habit of developing young stars and Milosavljevic is the latest on the conveyor belt of talent, with his performances grabbing the attention of Celtic, Everton, Paris Saint-Germain and others.

A defensive partner for Cameron Carter-Vickers is a priority for Celtic and Milosavljevic is seen as a great long-term option.

But Red Star are ambitious and have already have laid out their plans to keep him at the Marakana.

Red Star Belgrade confirm how much Veljko Milosavljevic will play

Unlike Celtic, Red Star are already back in pre-season training ahead of their league campaign beginning in July, as well as competing in the Champions League qualifiers.

Milosavljevic is one of those training with the first-team and despite his talents, it seems that his club are keen to manage his workload so that he isn’t exposed too quickly.

Milos Veljkovic and Rodrigo de Souza Prado are centre-backs who have joined the club this summer and according to Meridian Sport, the Serbian giants are focusing on improving Milosavljevic’s physicality.

Right now, the club consider him as the third-choice centre-back behind the two new additions but wouldn’t be afraid to include him when needed.

Last season the 17-year-old made 17 appearances in all competitions for the first-team.

Would Veljko Milosavljevic get more game time at Celtic?

It’s clear that Brendan Rodgers would like to find a partner to play alongside Carter-Vickers.

The Celtic manager likes a left-footed player to play on the left-hand side of the central duo – something Milosavljevic can provide.

Maik Nawrocki could be heading back to Poland and both Liam Scales and Auston Trusty are inconsistent at the best of times.

If Celtic were to move for the youngster, there would have to be an understandable bedding-in period but it wouldn’t be completely out of the question to suggest that he could force his way into the starting XI early doors.
