Celtic are close to the signing of Lanus left-back Alexandro Bernabei, Football Scotland has reported.

The outlet believes Celtic have been scouting him for a while and could complete a deal in the coming days.

The 21-year-old is a teammate of Julian Aude, who was reported by Stephen McGowan to be a subject of interest for the Hoops previously.

Bernabei has been playing more regularly at left-back for Lanus than Aude recently. It’s this player who Celtic have their eye on, not Aude, say Football Scotland.

He’s made 84 senior appearances in total for the Argentinian club, scoring four times and assisting on ten occasions.

The bold claim that this deal could be done in a matter of days is certainly exciting. It suggests Celtic are well down the line with his recruitment.

We know the Bhoys are actively on the hunt for a quality competitor for Greg Taylor, who really stepped up and proved himself a worthy champion-calibre left-back last term.

The transfer window only officially opened today and Celtic have already announced a deal for Cameron Carter-Vickers, so the club aren’t messing about on transfers this summer.

There should be a word of caution, in that Mohanad Jeahze was also reported to be close to joining last month, by another Scottish outlet. So plans can change or some of these reports can end up inaccurate.

The news is certainly cause for intrigue over the weekend though, which I won’t argue with!
