It’s action time for the Celtic board.

They don’t want to make themselves more unpopular than they already are with sections of the Celtic fanbase because the 2025 summer transfer window hasn’t gone to plan.

Celtic have sold one key player this summer, with Nicolas Kuhn joining Como for just under £17 million, and the champions of Scotland making a healthy profit on his name.

But Chris Sutton warned that, with the new Premiership season around the corner, there can’t be any more sales of that kind.

Chris Sutton tells Celtic board to ‘sell all the players’ if they dare sell Daizen Maeda

Daizen Maeda was PFA Player of the Year, and he has been so important to Celtic that it has even got Sutton comparing him to Diego Maradona.

But, whilst talking to Kris Boyd on the Warm Up, the former Rangers man noted that Brentford are keen on Maeda, especially with the London club losing star forward Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United this summer.

Upon hearing that, Sutton made it clear that the Celtic board might as well go and sell ‘all the players’ if they dare part ways with Maeda now.

Sutton: “Maeda is like Maradona to Celtic.”

Boyd: “He is like who?”

Sutton: “Like Maradona to Celtic. Unbelievable, Daizen Maeda was.”

Boyd: “Maeda and Maradona in the same sentence?”

Sutton: “Both begin with M. But he was that important to Celtic. If anything happens to him.”

Boyd: “There are rumours Brentford could be in for him as well. There has been.”

Sutton: “Come on. What would be the point if they sold Daizen Maeda? That can’t. I mean, just sell all the players. I know Celtic have a model, and I understand that, but that’s absolutely ridiculous. They can’t sell all their best players. Nicolas Kuhn has gone, but they have to build for the season.

“I think the fanbase would be up in arms if that happens.”

Maeda’s Celtic career in numbers

There has been a lot of change to Celtic’s forward line since the winter, including the exit of Kyogo Furuhashi, Kuhn leaving and Jota’s long-term injury.

Many think it has made Celtic’s front three weaker, and not many are sure who starts, but one man is a certainty, and that’s Maeda.

Purchased for £1.6 million under Ange Postecoglou, the Japan star has gone on to become a hero in Glasgow and is getting better by the season.
