Ross McCormack says possible Callum Osmand signing ‘doesn’t look good’ for Celtic youngster

Celtic’s search for a striker has landed the club in familiar waters.

Everyone remembers Moussa Dembele joining Celtic from Fulham as a teenager in 2016, and now Callum Osmand could follow suit nearly ten years later.

The 19-year-old is expected to join Celtic from the English Premier League side and jump straight into Brendan Rodgers’ first-team plans.

As of this moment, the free-scoring Daizen Maeda, rising star Johnny Kenny, and the man dividing opinion, Adam Idah, are the centre forward options.

You wonder how Rodgers will lay all of this out if Osmand signs, and which player is going to take the biggest hit, in terms of game time.

Callum Osmand transfer ‘doesn’t look good’ for Celtic youngster Johnny Kenny

Kenny was brought back by Rodgers during the January transfer window, after his positive and progressive loan spell at Shamrock Rovers.

But the 22-year-old only played around 200 minutes during the second half of the last campaign, as Ross McCormack worries about the Celtic Park academy graduate.

McCormack thinks it ‘doesn’t look good’ for Kenny because Rodgers can’t have four players vying for one striker spot.

“If you sign a striker, then, of course, Daizen Maeda would go left wing,” said McCormack. “If you can only get a left winger, and can’t get a striker that you want, then Daizen Maeda plays through the middle.

“What this does, for me, the young boy Osmand, who is coming from Fulham. It probably doesn’t look good if you are Johnny Kenny.

“You are a young boy, and they have gone out and signed another sort of young striker. You are wondering what path his career is going to take now.

“If you only play one up front, there is no point in carrying a squad with four out-and-out strikers, let us be honest.”

Osmand vs Kenny stats comparison

Osmand is yet to make a senior appearance for Fulham, but he has racked up the games and goals at the younger age groups.

In comparison to Kenny, he has been more exposed to senior football, as well as playing in Europe, much more than Osmand.

That includes scoring his first goal for Celtic.

Idah isn’t going to be dethroned if Osmand comes in because he is the senior player and the transfer fee above his head.

So, you wonder if Kenny will head for the exit door and go out on loan again.
