Brendan Rodgers appears to have Celtic motoring on in this summer’s transfer window.

With Kieran Tierney already at Celtic, Rodgers is also close to sealing a deal to bring young Fulham striker Callum Osmand to the Bhoys this summer.

With Celtic also looking to buy Benjamin Nygren, the Parkhead club are wasting no time in strengthening the squad for next season.

And it appears that talks to add Celtic’s second summer signing are now ‘progressing well’.

Hayato Inamura ‘keen’ to join Celtic as talks progress

Anthony Joseph gave a late-night update on Celtic’s pursuit of Hayato Inamura. And it appears that the rumour has just taken a shove into the realms of reality as talks to bring the Japanese defender to Glasgow continue.

Joseph said on X, “Celtic are in talks to sign Albirex Niigata centre-back Hayato Inamura. Sky Sports News
understands discussions have progressed well today and the 23-year-old is keen to join the Scottish champions.

“Inamura is a left-footed centre-back, who can also play at left-back.”

67 Hail Hail’s verdict on Hayato Inamura rumour, Celtic already have a better Academy option

Hayato Inamura has only made 33 senior first-team appearances in the J League and, as yet, has had no international call-ups at any level.

At 23, this move appears strange considering Celtic already have a left-back with U21 international experience and more first-team appearances than the Japanese defender.

Matthew Anderson has spent two seasons on loan at Admira Wacker. He has four caps for Scotland at U21 level and has 44 appearances for the Austrian club scoring two goals and creating eight assists.

Two years younger than Inamura, would it not be better to give young Anderson his chance in the Celtic first-team next season rather than take a chance on another unknown defender from a struggling J League side?

Where is the harm and what a message it would send to the talented youth at Celtic.
