Tomas Cvancara is set to sign for Celtic as Martin O’Neill solves his search for a striker.

Cvancara will join Celtic on loan as the Borussia Monchengladbach striker agreed a six-month loan spell to help bolster O’Neill’s title defence.

The Czech striker has been struggling for form at the Bundesliga club and Cvancara will undergo a Celtic medical today to seal his move.

It looks like we finally have our striker… what are your first impressions of Tomas Cvancara

However, before a deal with Celtic was struck, the Daily Record published a story about Cvancara being ‘targeted’ by Rangers which looks really foolish now.

Tomas Cvancara was ‘targeted for Rangers’ hours before Celtic deal was sealed

The Daily Record believed that Cvancara was being looked at by Rangers just hours before the Czech striker agreed a deal with Celtic.

But that doesn’t tell the whole story about this strange rumour.

The Record said that a report from Fussball Europe claimed that Cvancara was a ‘strong’ transfer lead for Rangers.

But when looking at the link the Scottish publication provided, it led to a story published in July 2025 that had absolutely nothing to do with the Daily Record claim.

The report is very bizarre and it makes the media outlet look very foolish.

What we know about Tomas Cvancara joining Celtic

So far, we know that Celtic have agreed personal terms with the Czech striker and he will be at Parkhead until the end of the season.

If the Hoops want to make the move permanent, there is an option to buy if Cvancara impresses.

The 25-year-old will undergo a medical today and all being well, Cvancara will become Martin O’Neill’s first signing since the Northern Irishman took over for his interim spell.
