The latest on Celtic’s pursuit of Julian Araujo as right-back ‘desperately seeks’ transfer

Celtic’s pursuit of Bournemouth defender Julian Araujo is one that many fans may well get behind.

An injury to Alistair Johnston has left Celtic to rely on Anthony Ralston and Colby Donovan as first team starters until the Canadian returns from the treatment table.

As has been proven in Celtic’s defeat to Motherwell, neither of the two are ready, or good enough, to be relied upon, but both are excellent back-up options.

Celtic need a player who is experienced and can cope with the pressure of first team football and Mexico international Araujo seems the perfect player to do just that.

However, it appears that the Celtic target is in demand as another club enters the fray for his signature as Araujo’s ‘desperate’ need for a transfer in January comes to the fore.

Why Julian Araujo is pushing for a transfer amid Celtic rumours as America’s Eagles swoop

It appears that whilst Araujo attracts the attention of clubs across Europe, the Bournemouth fullback appears to be of interest back in his homeland.

Journalist Kert Ruiz says that Club America are interested in signing Araujo this January as the defender ‘desperately’ seeks a transfer move.

Ruiz said on X, “América’s Eagles are also looking into signing Julián Araujo.

“Options in Europe and Liga MX for the Mexican full-back, who is desperately seeking playing time ahead of the World Cup.”

Araujo is hoping to go to the World Cup that is being partly staged by Mexico and it seems that could put Celtic in a strong position as two problems come about for the Parkhead club.

Two issues Celtic have in their pursuit of Julian Araujo

The first issue is that Bournemouth have maxed out their ability to loan players out as they hit their international limit.

If the EPL club can remedy that by recalling someone from loan then a move to Celtic could be on.

However, if Celtic want to get Araujo in time to face Rangers on Saturday, they only have two days in which to do so.

With so many variables at play, that makes a move to Celtic in time for the Glasgow Derby unlikely, but not so difficult for when the transfer window closes on the 2nd of February.
