Celtic are in search of some much-needed midfield players this summer.

The desire to enhance the middle of the park will become even more paramount if Celtic part ways with several of their stars this summer, including Arne Engels.

That’s why Celtic have been linked with Gvidas Gineitis, who is currently playing for Torino in Serie A and is a Lithuanian international.

67 Hail Hail has taken a look at Gineitis’s background, and what the champions of Scotland could be getting if he moves to Glasgow.

Lots of interest in Arne Engels. But will he leave Celtic?

Name your price for Engels if he leaves…💰💰💰

Gvidas Gineitis’s career path

Gineitis began his footballing journey in his home country of Lithuania for FK NFA, now known as FK Be1.

The 22-year-old also represented FK Atmosfera before that road led him to Italy, joining SPAL in 2022, where he didn’t make a single appearance.

Not long after, Gineitis would join Torino’s youth system as a teenager, and now he has made 80 appearances for the Turin club.

Gineitis’s style of play

Torino have been a mid-table club in Italy for several years, with Gineitis becoming a midfield regular during the last two seasons.

This included his manager, Marco Baroni, being sacked towards the end of the recent campaign, with Gineitis playing 31 games in all competitions.

According to WhoScored, Gineitis has three strong points to his game: Through balls, Ball interception, and blocking the ball.

All three qualities would be welcome at Parkhead next season, because everything and anything was going wrong for the club, especially with the midfield players.

According to Sofascore, Gineitis intercepted the ball 0.8 times per game in Serie A last term, made 1.6 tackles, and recovered the ball 2.7 times.

The downside is that the rising Lithuanian star is deemed to have two weaknesses: Passing and concentration.

He made two errors leading to a goal last term, while he created 5 big chances for his teammates, touched the ball 33.3 times per match, and made 0.9 key passes.

All in all, if Engels does or doesn’t leave, O’Neill needs bodies, oomph and some real quality in midfield, because it was one of the problem areas last season.
