Celtic are reportedly targeting Gvidas Gineitis as a potential replacement for Arne Engels.

Engels is expected to leave the club this summer, with half of Europe reportedly interested at this point.

A major rebuild beckons for Martin O’Neill, and this is especially the case in Celtic’s midfield department. Reo Hatate is also set to leave.

The link of Gineitis is another major hint at the profiles O’Neill wants in his midfield this summer.

There is reportedly also strong interest from the Bundesliga.

As a left-footer, Gineitis profiles differently to Engels. 6 ft 3 in tall, he has also functioned as a defensive midfielder in the past.

Aged 22, he has an impressive number of over 75 Serie A appearances to his name. He was signed by Torino from Atmosfera Mazekiai in Lithuania in 2023.

His agent, Dmitry Vinokurov, hinted at a summer move, saying: “Torino holds Gvidas in high regard and believes in his future.

“The player has steadily improved within the club and is considered an important part of the project.

“At the same time, Gvidas is ambitious, as any player competing at this level should be.

“There have already been expressions of interest from other clubs, which is natural considering his age, performance, and potential.

“If an interesting offer were to arrive for both Torino and Gvidas, it would certainly be carefully evaluated.”

The report says that O’Neill is expected to ramp up his summer business ‘imminently’.

🤦‍♂️ Still no sign of an agreement for either of these two Celtic favourites to stay…

Midfielders being linked with Celtic

Preston have missed their chance to sign Alfie Devine, potentially opening the door for the Hoops to enter the running.

Benjamin Tahirovic is very much liked by Celtic; Brondby have reportedly now had contact from Celtic regarding his services.

Milan Vitalis Elijah Just and Elliot Watt are all also on the radar.

Celtic have also reignited their interest in Jakob Breum, the Danish midfielder for whom they infamously sent several lowball offers last summer.

Celtic had scouted both Silas Andersen and Issa Doumbia in recent months, but the pair are now on the verge of joining Sporting in Portugal.
