The two options Melbourne City are ‘exploring’ to sign Celtic winger Marco Tilio

Marco Tilio’s time at Celtic has certainly been strange.

Tilio arrived at Celtic as the most expensive player ever to be sold by an Australian club. That record built up the hype surrounding the former A-League winger.

However, Tilio’s Celtic career immediately stalled after Brendan Rodgers announced the Australian was injured just two weeks after he put pen to paper on a five-year deal.

Since then, Tilio has made two Celtic appearances amassing 28 minutes but has enjoyed two spells on loan at his former club Melbourne City.

And it appears that after Tilio won the A-League Grand Final with Melbourne City last season, the Australian club are looking to take him back again in yet another summer transfer move.

Melbourne City ‘want’ to sign Celtic enigma Marco Tilio

Since Celtic loaned Tilio back to Melbourne City, the Australian has made 24 appearances for the A-
League side, winning some silverware to boot.

Clearly Melbourne like the player and Sky Sports’ Anthony Joseph has shared that they are exploring ‘conditions’ to take Tilio back Down Under for a third time.

Joseph said on X, “Melbourne City want to re-sign Celtic winger Marco Tilio.

“The A League side are exploring the conditions of another loan move, or permanent deal.

“Celtic signed the Australia international in July 2023 for £1.5m, but he’s been loaned back to Melbourne in 2 spells since Feb 2024.”

What Celtic must tell Melbourne City about Marco Tilio transfer

Celtic must now take a stance with Melbourne City over Marco Tilio. Having brought the player through their academy ranks, they know what he can produce for them.

And after having yet another successful loan spell, Celtic should now tell the A-League club to either make Tilio’s move permanent or walk away from the player.

It’s clear Tilio has no future at Celtic and another loan move is no good for the 23-year-old or for the Parkhead club.

If he leaves Celtic this summer, it should be a clean break so that Tilio can move on from a move that has clearly not worked out for both parties.
