It has been a rather interesting start to the new season for Celtic.
On Sunday, Celtic take on Aberdeen at Pittodrie for their second game of the 2025/26 Premiership season, and new summer signing Jahmai Simpson-Pusey could feature for the first time.
Simpson-Pusey was signed from Manchester City on a season-long loan deal, as the 19-year-old has come in to challenge Celtic’s senior centre-backs for a starting spot.
Amid the arrival of Simpson-Pusey, there has been a lot of noise around Celtic’s 2025 summer transfer window, including fans and the manager, Brendan Rodgers, being frustrated by what has and hasn’t happened.

Celtic’s signing of Jahmai Simpson-Pusey
Celtic’s summer transfer recruitment was the topic of discussion on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, with Hugh Keevins seemingly dismissing the signing of Simpson-Pusey.
Keevins was ‘reminding everyone’ of how Celtic’s squad is ‘light’, but suggested ‘there isn’t so much as a name in the frame’ to come in and add to the squad.
But Gordon Duncan reminded his fellow pundit about Simpson-Pusey, and when the teenager was spoken about in a dismissive manner, the Clyde 1 presenter stated, ‘we can’t just keep moving the goalposts to suit the narrative’, and that the player in question could still prove to be ‘very good.’
Keevins shared: “Brendan Rodgers is reminding everyone, especially the Celtic support, that he knows the squad is light. He knows the areas where the squad is light. He also said on television, ‘it’s arithmetic. I am short of players.’
“So, he can’t be any more explicit, and yet, another week goes by, and there isn’t so much as a name in the frame.”
Duncan then reminded Keevins: “They have made a signing since last week.”
Keevins then dismissed it: “Yeah, a teenager from Manchester City, who is on loan.”
Duncan then stated: “We can’t just keep moving the goalposts to suit the narrative. I agree with you. I thought they would do more business than they have done by now. We can’t say, ‘there hasn’t been a name since last week.’ And you say, ‘there has been a signing, he is just a teenager on loan from Manchester City.’
Keevins: “There was no option to buy.”
Duncan: “He might be very good, though.”
Overreaction to Celtic’s win over St Mirren?
Nobody is going to argue that Celtic’s win over St Mirren on Flag Day, and for the opening game of the Premiership season, wasn’t impressive, but the points were put on the board, nonetheless.
What’s interesting is how overreactive Keevins has been about that performance by stating it was ‘torture.’
But Duncan rightfully pointed out that ‘more evidence’ is needed, rather than just looking at that one performance, with these comments interestingly coming before Rangers dropped points to Dundee.
Keevins claimed: “You just need to look back at last week’s game against St Mirren, which was torture, and the cup final (against Aberdeen).”
Duncan interrupted: “Do you not think everyone should take a wider view on it? Like, a really, really good version of Celtic, tooled up to the max, might struggle a little bit on any given 90 minutes against a well-organised St Mirren.”
Keevins then stated: “It’s not a really, really good Celtic up to the max.”
Duncan then made it clear: “I know, that’s why I said if. I am talking about this notion that the 90 minutes against St Mirren is all the proof you need. I feel like clubs need more evidence than that. I think if your whole transfer strategy comes down to 90 minutes against St Mirren.”
