‘What an idiot’ – Chris Sutton slams striker for rejecting transfer deadline day Celtic move

Celtic’s transfer deadline day ended miserably in the eyes of many of the Hoops support.

Kasper Dolberg rejected Celtic with the Denmark striker seemingly preferring a move to Ajax this summer.

As the Dane planned his trip to the Netherlands, Celtic then turned to David Fofana as the Parkhead club looked to beef up their attacking options.

And as Celtic ended the window without that badly-needed striker, Chris Sutton blasted one of the two strikers for rejecting a move to Paradise yesterday.

Chris Sutton brands David Fofana an ‘idiot’ for rejecting Celtic

David Fofana rejected Celtic for Charlton late in the transfer window and upon hearing the news from Mark Chapman, Sutton branded the Chelsea man ‘an idiot’.

Chapman said on the Monday Night Club, “I’ve just seen a story, Chris, which may get your ire going again towards Celtic, which is they were in for David Fofana at Chelsea? You heard that?”

Sutton: “Yeah, I saw that.”

Chapman: “It’s being reported now that he has turned them down for Charlton.”

Sutton: “God, what an idiot. Charlton? Instead of Celtic? Really?”

Chapman: “I was thinking more, that isn’t great for Celtic. If that is the case, it adds fuel to the fire doesn’t it?

Sutton: “Yeah, it does. It’s been a nightmare, however many months now, of recruitment at Celtic. Never replaced Kyogo, never replaced Nicolas Kuhn; Brendan Rodgers clearly isn’t happy.

“When Callum McGregor says they need bodies in the door – Callum is super intelligent, he’s articulate, he’s measured.

“When the captain says they need players in, out of the Champions League, there is a large element of the support that are getting restless.”

What Chris Sutton previously said about Celtic’s transfer window

Sutton was left perplexed with Celtic’s transfer business after the Bhoys’ draw with Rangers at the weekend.

Taking aim at the club, Sutton said, “Truth is, two average teams. Big chance missed for Celtic against a rank Rangers team. Didn’t do enough to win it.

“Nowhere near enough in the final third from Celtic. A lack of combination play and understanding.

“Huge 24 hours for the Celtic recruitment team…”

It was a huge 24 hours for Celtic and the recruitment team. They had a big chance to redeem themselves in the eyes of the Parkhead support.

And in true Celtic fashion, they failed.
