Celtic are finally making some serious moves in the 2026 summer transfer market.
After the troubles of recent transfer windows, Celtic are starting to make the right noises, including the signing of Camilo Duran and the expected arrival of Kasper Hogh from Bodø/Glimt.
The signing of Hogh, in particular, would be a statement signing from Celtic, with the Danish striker currently in London, where he is set to undergo a medical.
But when Hogh’s arrival has been signed, sealed and delivered, the powers that be still need to address issues with the squad, because this refresh under Martin O’Neill is far from over.

Celtic’s midfield question marks
Everyone has seen that Daizen Maeda has left Celtic and joined Ipswich Town, with his fellow countrymen, Reo Hatate, still in Glasgow.
Many expected Hatate to leave by now, but as of this moment, he is still a Celtic player, even though the writing is on the wall regarding his future.
But he isn’t the only one. There have been question marks over the futures of Arne Engels, Callum McGregor and Benjamin Nygren.
While the Celtic Park faithful would prefer those three to stay on board, their futures need to be addressed as soon as possible, because fresh legs are still needed in the middle of the park, and if any of them leave, it becomes paramount that they are replaced.
Who is going to challenge Kieran Tierney?
There were sections of this summer where Celtic fans were growing frustrated.
That was proven with the saga around Marcelo Saracchi’s possible return, but everyone now knows it won’t happen.
But Kieran Tierney still needs a challenger for next season, so another left-back needs to be brought in, whether that’s a young challenger or a familiar face in Greg Taylor; it’s an important area of the pitch that needs to be sorted.
Do Celtic need another centre-back and goalkeeper?
O’Neill has stated in pre-season that he wants Celtic to sign ‘another goalkeeper.’ Many names have been linked, but one week out before the season starts, nothing seems concrete.
Some fans would prefer Viljami Sinisalo to remain number one, so if another keeper isn’t signed a few days before the window slams shut, then it won’t be too much of an issue.
But do the champions of Scotland need another centre-back? Cameron Carter-Vickers is back from injury, Liam Scales is a regular under O’Neill, while Auston Trusty will return late for pre-season after World Cup duty.
Given Celtic’s troubles at the back last term, and question marks over whether Carter-Vickers can find that top, top form again, it’s probably wise for the club to sign another experienced centre-back.

Anything else?
One other area that probably needs better quality is the right wing.
There are options for O’Neill, such as the much-improved Hyunjun Yang, but after that it’s a worry.
Duran can play out wide, so can Luke McCowan; James Forrest has the experience but is past his best, while the likes of Michel-Ange Balikwisha have struggled beyond belief since joining, so it’s an area of the pitch to watch out for.
Perhaps someone like Callum Osmand might make that place his own next season, because he is versatile, but if it proves to be a problem area in the opening few weeks of the season, then Celtic will need to sign a bona fide right-sided winger.
