Where Celtic stand in their pursuit of Ignacio ‘Nacho’ Laquintana

Celtic may have two additions through the door right now, but more are to be expected.

Julian Araujo and Tomas Cvancara are the two winter additions so far and Martin O’Neill is still on the lookout for more.

A centre-back, right winger and maybe a goalkeeper or central midfielder, seems like the options Celtic want to prioritise.

Over the last week or so, rumours linking Ignacio ‘Nacho’ Laquintana to Celtic have quietened down of late. So, what is going on there?

Ignacio ‘Nacho’ Laquintana to Celtic looks unlikely

Talks between Celtic and Red Bull Bragantino were underway about a possible loan with an option to buy, however that now seems unlikely to progress.

According to multiple reports, the Hoops haven’t followed up their initial enquiries and therefore that deal seems like it is dead in the water.

Other options like Yaser Asprilla and Jesurun Rak-Sakyi have moved ahead in the pack it seems instead and that they are cooling their interest in the South American.

Right wing isn’t a major problem for Celtic

Jota may be out for the season as part of an injury setback, but there are thankfully still some players that can still fit in on the right wing.

Hyunjun Yang has looked like Celtic’s saviour in recent weeks and James Forrest has proved that there is still life in the tank.

Sebastian Tounekti and Michel-Ange Balikwisha can also fill in there if need be, as can Daizen Maeda if all other options are unavailable, meaning there are a plethora of candidates.

Having more options would be great, but it’s not the end of the world.
