Celtic are leaving it very late, but it seems as though Martin O’Neill is getting his wish of attacking reinforcements entering the building.

So many names have been linked with joining Celtic during the January transfer window, and to nobody’s surprise, deals have stalled, gone cold or completely gone out of the window.

But Celtic are close to signing winger Joel Mvuka from Lorient, and his ambitions are pretty clear as he looks to make a name for himself at the champions of Scotland.

Joel Mvuka’s World Cup dream ahead of Celtic transfer

Anthony Joseph has shared on social media that Celtic are paying ‘£3 million’ for Mvuka’s talents, and he has travelled up to Glasgow.

With the 2026 World Cup around the corner, a reason why Mvuka is joining Celtic is that he wants to ‘break into the Norway squad.’

Led by the goal-scoring machine Erling Haaland, Norway romped to World Cup qualification and booked their first ticket to football’s biggest stage for the first time since 1998.

‘UPDATE: Celtic have agreed a £3m deal for Lorient winger Joel Mvuka,’ wrote Joseph on social media. ‘

‘The 23yo is in London to undergo a medical today and will travel up to Glasgow later tonight.

‘Mvuka wants to join the Scottish champions – with hopes of breaking into the Norway squad for the World Cup.’

Mvuka’s career in numbers

Mvuka has never represented Norway’s senior side, but he has earned caps for the younger age groups, so he has to seriously impress at Celtic if he wants to get that phone call.

With Celtic in the Europa League and pushing for the title, he has the platform to try to write his name up in lights.

But Mvuka will have to produce some career-best performances because he has struggled at the many clubs he has represented.
