Celtic have struck several outgoing loan deals for the 2023/24 season. Here is a look at all of the Hoops’ current loanees.
Brendan Rodgers took decisions in the summer and winter transfer windows to farm out some players under his watch on loan for either half the season or the full campaign.
Now that we are approaching the business end of the season after the January window, 67 Hail Hail have provided a comprehensive loan report page that will be updated accordingly until June.
Here’s how Celtic’s 13 loan players are getting on so far at their temporary clubs.
Celtic loan players 2023/24
Liam Shaw (on loan to Wigan Athletic)

Liam Shaw has so far failed to break into the Celtic first-team since signing in 2021. As such, he has spent time out on loan at Motherwell and Morecambe.
The midfielder was then loaned to English League One side Wigan Athletic for the 2023/24 season. So far, he’s appeared more than 20 times for Shaun Maloney’s men including in an FA Cup tie against Manchester United.
Life at the DW Stadium was tough to begin with for Shaw, missing eight of the first nine league matchday squads, but the 22-year-old is now earning regular minutes with mid-table Wigan.
Ben McPherson (on loan to Queen’s Park)

Ben McPherson is a 19-year-old right-back who has been loaned to Scottish Championship outfit Queen’s Park from Celtic B.
The youngster started the season with the Lowland League side but was recruited by Spiders boss Robin Veldman in August.
Scotland U21 starlet McPherson has been gaining some fantastic experience in Scotland’s second tier, racking up well over 1000 minutes played in the division so far.
Let’s hope new Queen’s Park manager Callum Davidson can get even more out of McPherson throughout the rest of the season as the Glasgow club aim to stave off relegation.
Ben Summers (on loan to Dunfermline Athletic)

Ben Summers was wanted by Dunfermline boss James McPake for over a year before he finally signed the Celtic youngster on loan for the Pars in August.
The 19-year-old midfielder perhaps hasn’t enjoyed the loan stint he would have liked so far. Issues with his thigh have prevented him from getting a proper run in the Scottish Championship outfit’s team.
He has completed two full 90 minutes in 2024, however, scoring in both games. That is absolutely fantastic for Summers so it would be great to see him kick on and finally put his injury woes to one side.
Bosun Lawal (on loan to Fleetwood Town)

Bosun Lawal made his Celtic senior debut last season under Ange Postecoglou in the Scottish Cup after progressing brilliantly with the B team.
The decision was made to send him out to Scott Brown’s Fleetwood in the summer and the athletic defender has been a mainstay for the English League One side this season.
Despite Broony’s sacking at the start of the season and Fleetwood’s very poor form, Lawal has been good for the side and scored a peach of a strike against Reading in October – watch it below from the 0:18 mark.
Tobi Oluwayemi (on loan to FC Admira Wacker)

Celtic entered into a mutually beneficial partnership with FC Admira Wacker in the summer of 2023 and goalkeeper Tobi Oluwayemi was the first to be sent out to Austria.
The 20-year-old endured an underwhelming loan at Cork City last season and sadly, it hasn’t been much better in the Admiral 2. Liga. In fact, it’s been much worse.
That’s because Oluwayemi has been blighted with a knee injury and therefore, he is yet to make his debut for FC Admira Wacker this season.
Celtic really should be bringing him back to Glasgow in January and reintegrating the young stopper back into the B side for the rest of the campaign.
Matthew Anderson (on loan to FC Admira Wacker)

Matthew Anderson was the other Celtic youth player to be shipped out to FC Admira Wacker as part of his development.
And thankfully, the defender hasn’t experienced the torrid time Oluwayemi has over the last four to five months.
The exciting 19-year-old Anderson has been handed plenty of game time, playing more than 600 minutes in eight league games so far. He’s also chipped in with three assists which is fantastic, largely because he’s been playing more as a left-midfielder than a full-back.
The Scotland U21 international suffered an ankle injury in October but only missed a couple of games before getting straight back into the team.
Sead Haksabanovic (on loan to Stoke City)

Sead Haksabanovic left Celtic in the summer under a dark cloud after moaning on social media about his lack of game time under Brendan Rodgers.
As such, Stoke City decided to take him on loan for the rest of the season in the English Championship. The 24-year-old enjoyed a decent start in Staffordshire – notching a goal and an assist in his first six games – but he’s been in and out of the team since October.
Haksabanovic hasn’t registered a goal contribution since that month and failed to make the league matchday squad for every game in December before Christmas.
New Stoke boss Steven Schumacher has since given the Montenegrin game time here and there but it appears Haksabanovic – who won the Potters’ player of the month award in September – is merely a squad player at this juncture of the season.
More Celtic loanees
The following Celtic players have only just been sent out on loan in January, with Adam Montgomery being recalled in the month only to be signed by a different club.
Montgomery spent the first-half of the season at Fleetwood Town, playing just six times for the English outfit. He would have been hoping for more opportunities at Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership but unfortunately has returned to Celtic temporarily due to a serious injury.
We will provide more comprehensive updates on the below players very soon:
- Adam Montgomery (Motherwell)
- Kwon Hyeok-kyu (St Mirren)
- Mackenzie Carse (Queen’s Park)
- Johnny Kenny (Shamrock Rovers)
- Marco Tilio (Melbourne City)
- Mikey Johnston (West Bromwich Albion)
