Brendan Rodgers needs to bring Celtic star into XI vs Aberdeen and keep him in for rest of the season

It’s time for Celtic to bounce back after a weekend to forget for the champions.

From the heartache of Bayern Munich in the Champions League to Celtic’s defeat to Hibernian in the Premiership on Saturday, Brendan Rodgers will now get the players back on home soil.

It’s a the small matter of taking on Aberdeen at Celtic Park – who have had a rather interesting season and some mixed results against those in green and white.

Aberdeen have been the only team to score in the champions’ backyard in the Premiership after their 2-2 draw at the start of the campaign.

But, since then, they have suffered two defeats, including that Hampden mauling when the Hoops netted six on their way to League Cup triumph.

Aberdeen’s form spiralled out of control for months after that and only recently have they managed to revive themselves.

But that shouldn’t be a worry for Celtic because they need to bounce back after that abject display at Easter Road and Rodgers needs to ring the changes.

Jeffrey Schlupp should start for Celtic against Aberdeen

Celtic’s opening 45 minutes against Hibs was one to forget and Rodgers made his feelings clear by ringing the changes at the break.

He made three changes, including bringing on Jeffrey Schlupp for Greg Taylor and that now needs to be a permanent move.

In the few games the on-loan Crystal Palace star has played, especially in Munich, he has proven that he is more than ready to start on a regular basis.

This just doesn’t need to happen against Aberdeen, but for the rest of the campaign, Schlupp should now be the starting left-back, especially with Taylor yet to sign a new contract.

Yes, as of this moment, Schlupp is heading back to Palace because he has a deal until the rest of the season, but at least he can prove why Celtic should sign him and challenge the retuning Kieran Tierney for the next campaign.

Schlupp vs Greg Taylor stats against Hibernian

Celtic played far better in the second half against Hibs and they will probably wonder how they didn’t get anything from the match.

But there was the controversial call to disallow Daizen Maeda’s equalising goal, as Schlupp outdid Taylor at left-back.

The thing with Schlupp is that he had hardly played this season, so you were wondering if he was rusty and lacked that sharpness.

But he has been far from that and now deserves to start on a regular basis.
