Stephen Welsh had an evening to forget against Cork City.
Although Celtic beat Cork 2-1, Welsh will consider it to be an utter failure.
Welsh was at fault for the hosts’ equaliser but had shown signs of a problem flaring up moments before the goal.
The defender then went back down to the floor shortly after being muscled off the ball by Matthew Murray to be replaced by Colby Donovan, who went on to score the winner.
After the game, Brendan Rodgers provided an update on the 25-year-old’s situation.

Stephen Welsh may require surgery on injury
Speaking to the club’s social media channels after the game, Rodgers revealed that the centre-back had suffered a shoulder injury.
It’s a problem that has blighted the 25-year-old throughout his career and the Celtic manager admitted he may need surgery.
“He’s done his shoulder again,” Rodgers confirmed.
“It’s the fourth time it’s popped out. You know when it keeps coming out like that, there’s the possibility of an operation so he has to have a wee think about that.
“By the time the physios got on, it had popped back in but the pain was too sore so we took him off.”
What does the future hold for Stephen Welsh at Celtic?
After a loan spell to Mechelen for the second half of last season, Welsh has come back hoping to force his way back into the Celtic first team.
Maik Nawrocki has joined Hannover 96 on loan and Gustaf Lagerbielke’s permanent move to Braga was confirmed.
Meanwhile, Justin de Haas has been linked with Celtic and there is also the emergence of Hayato Inamura, who excelled on his debut.
Right now, it feels like Welsh is way down the pecking order – even below the likes of Dane Murray – and once recovered, a chance to play regularly away from Celtic Park may benefit him.
