‘A bit strong’ – Andy Halliday reacts to what he is hearing about Adam Idah at Celtic

Adam Idah has come out fighting in recent weeks.

The Celtic striker has got a lot of people talking this season, with his price tag, performances, goals and worth to the club coming under the spotlight.

After Idah’s successful loan spell at Celtic, it was pretty clear that the club were going to permanently secure his services from Norwich City.

But extra pressure was put on last summer, because Celtic paid £9 million for Idah, and it has resulted in people thinking differently about him.

Added to that, the 24-year-old hasn’t been a regular starter, and he has seen the likes of PFA Player of the Year, Daizen Maeda, as well as the recently departed Kyogo Furuhashi play in front of him.

But how would you sum up Idah’s season?

Celtic told Adam Idah has been ‘unbelievable’ this season

Given the mixed feelings and talk around Idah this term, not many would claim that he has been ‘unbelievable’ for the champions of Scotland.

But that’s what was suggested on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, but Andy Halliday wasn’t so sure.

The Motherwell midfielder, upon hearing that Idah claim, stated that ‘unbelievable’ is ‘a bit strong’, but he does think that there is a lot of promise there with Idah.

“I think unbelievable is a bit strong, personally,” said Halliday. “I think 19 goals in all competitions is a good return.

“Listen, he cost £9 million, so everyone is expecting him to come in and grab that jersey and score 20, 25 or 30 goals. I think 19 goals is, of course, a good return for him.

“He spoke a lot about being a big contribution to the team. With his runs and assists. He hasn’t got any assists in the league, so it’s not as if he has ten assists like Daizen Maeda does to back that up.

“I think he has had a decent season. I think ‘unbelievable’ for me is a bit strong. I think he has got loads of potential. Lots of attributes that he can improve on. There is nothing to say that he can’t do that.”

Idah’s stats for Celtic

Idah will point to his minutes, just over 2,000 this term in all competitions, compared to Maeda, who has played over 3,000.

Not only that, as the Republic of Ireland star proved at Ibrox recently, he does have this habit of scoring big goals in big games.

So, with the Scottish Cup final coming up, he will want to showcase that quality further, as WhoScored have rated his Premiership displays at 6.78.
