Celtic fans face yet another Adidas merchandise launch as the club remains at loggerheads with the supporters.

Some Celtic fans have been angered at the incessant number of merchandise releases since the Adidas contract was renewed back in March.

With Celtic supporters continually shelling out thousands of their hard-earned pounds on Adidas gear, they have watched the club systematically sell off the best players while failing to strengthen or replace them in this summer’s transfer window.

And now, just six weeks after a shambolic transfer deadline day, the Celtic board is set to unleash a new brand of merchandise as the German sportswear giant offers a sneak peek of the product on social media.

Adidas pre-promote new Celtic Roelee SPZL range with ‘free’ gift incentive

In what will be Celtic’s 11th merchandise release (at last count) since March, fans have been offered a look at a new trainer Adidas will be offering when it is released this Friday.

In a post on Instagram, Adidas’s brand consultant and designer Gary Aspden shared a picture of the new SPLZ trainer and said, “Celtic SPZL F.C. from adidas SPZL. Launching at 9am GMT on Friday 17th October, the Celtic F.C SPZL F.C. capsule collection (footwear and apparel) will be exclusively available at the Celtic Superstore.

“Supporters who make a purchase will also receive a limited-edition Celtic F.C. gift. Availability is strictly on a first-come, first-served basis and the launch mechanics will be managed by the club shop; early arrival is strongly encouraged.

“All three of the Adidas sponsored football clubs’ shoes this year were based on the Roelee SPZL silhouette with subtle tweaks (eg different tongue executions).

“For this latest instalment each of the clubs were selected by the Adidas Football B.U. in Germany. We knew for Celtic it had to be green based but we had done a green SPZL F.C. trainer with white stripes and red accents for Nottingham Forest last year so this posed an immediate challenge around how we could find viable and uncompromising ways to differentiate the Celtic trainers from those.”

Adidas explain the new Celtic shoe design

With Celtic now an elite partner of the German sportswear brand, Adidas have explained what inspired its design of the new trainer coming fans’ way.

Aspden continued, “The starting point for researching the design of the Celtic shoe was looking at historic Celtic club crests and what became immediately apparent to us was the amount of different shades of green that have been used by them within that.

“We anchored the idea for the design in reflecting these differences by subtly using a host of greens in the material and branding mix. The foxing is a dark translucent green with a contrasting tongue in white ‘dimpled’ ecotex.

“Each shoe has a gold foil print below the collar – the CELTIC F.C. SPZL in a box on the left shoe and a ‘Mod Trefoil’ logo on the right.

“The image above shows them with the secondary chalk white laces (the primary laces are in green) and they come with club branded extra footbeds. More info to follow on the apparel.”

As yet, there is no idea how much the new trainer will cost, but looking at the last Adidas Celtic trainer, fans will probably be looking at a £120 starting price point.

As ever, it’s up to Celtic supporters whether or not to buy the new product but looking at the recent fan fury towards the Parkhead board, Adidas could find that this particular launch will not be as successful as previous years.
