Ally McCoist delivers Celtic truth to next Rangers manager as he makes Steven Gerrard claim

Another one bites the dust at Rangers as Celtic march towards another Premiership title.

Let’s be honest, it’s rather surprising that Rangers have taken this long to sack Philippe Clement, but it was still a barrel of laughs for those of a Celtic persuasion.

Days after Brendan Rodgers’ side were knocked out of the Champions League, Celtic suffered defeat at Hibs and their second loss of the Premiership campaign.

But then, Rangers provided the entertainment again by losing to St Mirren and that was the final nail in the coffin for Clement.

He leaves Ibrox 13 points behind Celtic in the Premiership table and also the parting gift of that enthralling League Cup final victory at Hampden back in December.

Ally McCoist reacted to it all and had a word of warning to the next man trying to take on the might of Celtic and the genius of Rodgers.

Ally McCoist issues Celtic warning to next Rangers manager after Philippe Clement’s sacking

Celtic are pushing towards another Treble and it’s like Rodgers’ first spell all over again because he has been here before and done it all.

This isn’t just about what has been happening in the here and now, but how Celtic have been dominating for over a decade.

McCoist wanted to relay that message on talkSPORT Breakfast following Clement’s sacking and how Rangers are ‘miles behind’ their rivals.

“Miles behind them (Celtic),” said McCoist. “The recruitment (at Rangers) has been shocking.

“You look across the city, the one thing you have to do as a Rangers manager domestically, you have to beat Celtic. And if you are the Celtic manager, then you have to beat Rangers. It’s relatively simple, that’s where it is, to be a success. To win the league, you have got to beat the other team.

“Rangers, sadly, even including the comfortable 3-0 victory against Celtic a few weeks back, are a good, good way behind Celtic on and off the pitch. I know Celtic got beat at the weekend, but they put in a good performance in Munich and probably deserved to go to extra time.

“The gulf between the two clubs, at this moment in time, is massive, so anybody going in there is going to have to take the whole place by the scruff of the neck and give it a right good shake.

“They are going to have to get backed by new owners who will, hopefully, financially back the new coach and the new manager. The money they have spent. You can name the individuals – millions of pounds have been effectively thrown away.”

McCoist’s hilarious Steven Gerrard claim as Celtic march towards another title

Now, all eyes will be on the man who will try to stop Rodgers from dominating even further because he has seen through his fair share of Rangers managers.

One man who is familiar to Glasgow and Rodgers himself is Steven Gerrard and McCoist threw his name into the ring to replace Clement.

Although, after winning just one trophy at Rangers, McCoist hilariously claimed that Gerrard was a ‘success’, as he added on talkSPORT.

“Steven Gerrard would come into the equation, obviously because of his success,” claimed McCoist on who he wants to be Rangers’ next manager.

“It wouldn’t happen now, but I would have taken a gamble on Frank (Lampard) as well, before he went to Coventry.

“Muscat has done well. I think he might have won three leagues in three different countries. He could be another option. Derek McInnes would come into the equation, who is a fine manager at Kilmarnock and knows the league, the players and the club. There is definitely one or two options. There aren’t any glaringly obvious candidates.”
