Celtic transfer target Lennon Miller is expected to leave Motherwell in the summer.
The 18-year-old is having an outstanding campaign at Fir Park and several big teams are keen on bringing his talents on board, including Celtic.
What has elevated the midfielder’s status is the fact that Miller earned his maiden call-up to the Scotland squad during this past week for the UEFA Nations League games against Greece, but he wasn’t used by Steve Clarke.
Despite that, Miller has managed to cause a bit of a stir with his brash and confident comments, which even had Aston Villa’s John McGinn questioning him.
With his chest out, as the box-to-box midfielder entered the international stage, he stated, ‘I’m obviously not going to go in and be the best player there, but I believe I could maybe in a couple of months be the best player there’.
For some strange reason, it drew a mixed reaction, including Scotland assistant John Carver telling BBC Sport that the teenager ‘needs a little bit of guidance’.
But Andy Halliday feels things will change in the summer, as he defended his club teammate.

Andy Halliday defends Celtic transfer target Lennon Miller
Imagine a young kid, and one who is showing so much promise, just expressing such confidence, and it being knocked back in such a way!?
Halliday came to Miller’s aide and stated that his comments were ‘taken out of context’, as he told Open Goal.
Amid Miller’s transfer links with Celtic, Halliday also suggested that if he gets a move to that ‘big club’, then such comments might be viewed differently.
“See, to be fair, it was taken out of context,” said Halliday. “I think he kind of got his words wrong. He came into the changing room and said, ‘I might have say in a few years I want to be the best’. It did get taken out of context.
“But, I am the same as you, regardless, what if he said he wants to be the best in a few months?
“I tell you what, see when Lennon gets his move in the summer, and he goes to some of these big clubs, you are then saying, ‘he is playing for them, so what now?’.
“For me, it’s still down to your talent, so if you get the opportunity and you are as good, which I believe he will be.”
Miller would fit right into Celtic
Captain Callum McGregor is the main man at Celtic, and if he heard such comments, then you would suspect that he would applaud them.
Miller shouldn’t shy away from thinking in such a way again and this type of mindset is perfect for Celtic.
And perhaps a move to Celtic will boost Miller’s chances of breaking into a tough Scotland midfield, especially with the 2026 World Cup around the corner.
