The spotlight might be on Wilfred Nancy right now, and it will be burning, but many know Celtic’s problems stem further back.
Rewinding to Celtic’s disastrous 2025 summer transfer window, one of the problem areas that wasn’t fixed was the striker department.
After Kyogo Furuhashi’s January exit, many strikers were linked with Celtic, including former player Odsonne Edouard.
The 27-year-old had been on loan at Leicester City from Crystal Palace, playing just 113 minutes as the Foxes were relegated from the Premier League.
Upon returning to Selhurst Park in the summer, rumours started emerging about Edouard possibly re-joining Celtic, but instead, he headed back to France and joined RC Lens, where things are going beyond expectations.
You have £20m to spend in the January transfer window. How are you spending it?

Odsonne Edouard continues to shine at RC Lens as Celtic suffer St Mirren defeat
As Celtic were getting beaten by St Mirren on Sunday at Hampden, Edouard was netting a brace for Lens, who beat OGC Nice 2-0 on home soil.
Nice are in the Europa League with Celtic, but they have zero points to their name and are heading out of the competition, having lost nine games on the bounce in all competitions.
Edouard’s brace swiftly saw them off, as Lens, who finished eighth last season, are causing shockwaves in France because they are leading Treble-winners Paris Saint-Germain at the top of the Ligue 1 table after 16 games.
Edouard’s stats for Lens this season compared to Celtic’s strikers
When the January transfer window re-opens, Celtic will be looking for a striker, as the current crop just aren’t cutting it.
Kelechi Iheanacho can’t stay fit after arriving on a free transfer this summer. Johnny Kenny is proving that he isn’t ready for this level. Callum Osmand has only played a handful of matches and is now injured, whilst Daizen Maeda hasn’t been himself.
All in all, Edouard is outshining them all:
- Edouard’s league goals this season: 7 in 13 matches
- Iheanacho’s league goals: 2 in four matches
- Daizen Maeda league goals: 5 in 13 matches
- Johnny Kenny league goals: 4 in nine matches
