‘Bang out of order’ – Pundit launches tirade as Celtic fans face UEFA ban for Bayern Munich Champions League clash

Celtic are at the mercy of UEFA following their latest off-field infringement.

The Hoops were warned after a €20,000 fine for using pyrotechnics in their away clash against Borussia Dortmund back in October.

The punishment came with a suspended stadium ban for punters should any issue rear its head again.

Unfortunately the support did not heed the warning and pyro was again snuck in and used at Villa Park during Celtic‘s 4-2 defeat to Aston Villa in Wednesday evening’s Champions League tie.

That meant the club were anxiously awaiting the wrath of the governing body which could now come after Celts were drawn against Bayern Munich in the knockout playoffs to come in February.

Celtic released a statement of caution for punters to expect a possible ban given the nature of the offence and the previous UEFA warning.

And now a radio pundit and presenter has had his say on the “bang out of order” potential ban that a small section of the support has caused.

Ewen Cameron was furious on Celtic fans’ behalf

Ewen Cameron was livid on the fanbase’s behalf at the thought of thousands of good eggs missing the crunch tie because of a handful of rule breakers.

And he launched into a tirade complaining that the whole support should not be punished in what would be a blanket ban.

He tweeted: “It appears Celtic fans will be banned from the CL game in either Madrid or Munich.

“I’m sorry but why should thousands of decent fans be punished for the actions of a few?

“Identify the idiots and ban them.

“Punishing an entire support is bang out of order.”

Celtic’s pyro statement in full

The Hoops’ statement read: “As a result of the use of pyrotechnics during our match against Borussia Dortmund last year, Celtic Football Club was sanctioned by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body.

“The decision meant that, not only did the Club receive a fine of €20,000, but also that, if such behaviour was repeated at a match in the next two years, the Club would be prevented from selling tickets to supporters for one away match in UEFA club competitions.

“Unfortunately, the club has received a further disciplinary notice from UEFA following the match against Aston Villa FC on Wednesday evening.

“The Club will obviously make robust representations to UEFA and will make every effort to ensure that our fans can attend our next UEFA Champions League match.

“However, clearly there is a risk that supporters may not be able to attend.

“In light of this situation, it is incumbent on the club to make supporters aware of this risk, when considering making arrangements for travel, until further information is provided by UEFA.”
