The rich vein of form continues for Johnny Kenny, with the Celtic loanee finding the back of the net yet again for Bolton Wanderers.

It is officially the business end of the campaign. Just as Celtic navigate the immense pressure of the post-split fixtures in Scotland, Kenny finds himself building towards his own high-stakes environment down in League One.

On Saturday, the Celtic hitman was on target once more to help third-placed Bolton secure a vital point away at fifth-placed Bradford City.

That crucial result was enough to officially book a play-off spot for Steven Schumacher’s side, leaving the manager absolutely delighted with Kenny’s latest contribution.

“He has been brilliant,” said Schumacher. “Five in five for him, and six in total. Plus a load of assists that he has got.

“So, he has made a real massive contribution for us.”

Celtic loanee Johnny Kenny can’t stop scoring for Bolton in League One

This development is undoubtedly music to the ears of everyone at Celtic. Game by game, Kenny is enhancing his reputation and emphatically proving his worth.

Interestingly, Schumacher touched upon his desire to sign Kenny last summer.

However, an abysmal summer transfer window meant Celtic had no alternative but to keep the Republic of Ireland international in Glasgow until the winter transfer window re-opened.

Considering Bolton recently fell short of automatic promotion to the Championship by just one place, it certainly raises the question of what impact Kenny could have made had Schumacher secured his signature back in the summer.

But for now, Kenny’s sole focus will be on cementing his status as a Bolton hero.

As the regular campaign concludes, the Trotters are a mere three games away from returning to the second tier of English football.

If the Irish star continues finding the back of the net in these crunch fixtures, Celtic will be quietly rubbing their hands together because a successful promotion bid is guaranteed to drive up his asking price considerably.

“He has been brilliant,” Schumacher told Wanderers TV. “Five in five for him, and six in total. Plus a load of assists that he has got.

“So, he has made a real massive contribution for us. I said in the summer that we wanted to try to get him. We knew the attributes would suit this team.

“Kind of the way I like my teams to play, it needs a number nine that has got a threat. That speed is behind, so he has been excellent, and his goal today was outstanding.

“He almost scored before that. He said, ‘The goalkeeper made an unbelievable save, or else, it was going right into the top corner.’

“Pleased for him. Keeps his confidence going, and that’s important. Strikers, when they get into a hot streak and play with confidence.”
