Martin O’Neill has been front and centre of all things Celtic.
But behind the scenes, Shaun Maloney is playing an underrated and much bigger role than many think when inside those four walls of Parkhead.
When O’Neill and Maloney returned in October following Brendan Rodgers’ abrupt exit, Paul Tisdale and Peter Lawwell were still at Celtic.
But since then, Tisdale has been booted out, and Lawwell has finally left, so the question has to be asked: who is doing what?
The first thing I would do if I was on the Celtic board is – – – –
Shaun Maloney’s roles at Celtic
Hugh Keevins didn’t hold back on how things are being run behind the scenes at Celtic, especially given the January transfer window is wide open.
Speaking on Clyde 1, Keevins explained that Maloney has ‘three different jobs’ with the champions of Scotland.
Not only is Maloney coaching at Lennoxtown, as O’Neill takes the spotlight in the media and is the man-motivator, but he is also ‘looking after the pathway for the youngsters at the academy.’
Keevins also added, on top of that, the former Celtic forward is ‘trying to find players’, as the Hoops aim to boost their squad via the winter transfer window.
“There is no structure from within the club,” said Keevins. “Shaun Maloney has got three different jobs at Celtic Park.
“He is looking after the pathway for the youngsters at the academy. He is coaching the first team to help Martin O’Neill. And in his spare time, he is trying to find players.
“The infrastructure is a disgrace, and they have a transfer window ongoing.
“But it’s what happens whilst it’s ongoing. They are away to Falkirk. They are away to Hearts. They needed a striker in now.
“By the time you get to the beginning of February, when the window closes, you might have done yourself further damage.”
