Chris Sutton puts Kris Boyd in his place over nonsense about the Celtic board and the fans

It was great to see Celtic do their talking on the field of play at Rugby Park on Sunday.

Celtic beat Kilmarnock in stoppage time, thanks to an ice-cool penalty from summer signing Kelechi Iheanacho.

There has been and there will continue to be a lot of noise off the pitch, as long as certain members of the Celtic board are still in their positions, so winning on the pitch just to cool things down was great to see.

But given the noise the Celtic Park faithful have been making, there have been a lot of responses to it all, and thankfully, Chris Sutton was on board to shut down the nonsense coming from Kris Boyd.

Chris Sutton puts Kris Boyd in his place over Celtic fans wanting to hear from the board

It’s simple. The Celtic fans not only want proper answers from the higher-ups, but also changes because it’s clear many members of the boardroom aren’t fit for purpose.

But, for some strange reason, speaking on Sky Sports Football (14/09/25), Boyd labelled the Celtic fans ‘entitled’ in wanting to hear from their board members and added ‘I don’t see it with any other club.’

Sutton explained why supporters want to hear from the likes of Dermot Desmond, Peter Lawwell and Michael Nicholson, before going on to explain that fans pay their ‘hard-earned money’, so they can be as ‘entitled’ as they want.

Sutton: “I think the club hierarchy needs to have greater dialogue with the supporters. The supporters pay their hard-earned money.

“They rock up. They buy the merchandise, and when that statement was put out on Saturday evening. I think any Celtic supporter would have felt really angered.”

Boyd: “I get that. People are saying, ‘the board and everything to be more transparent with the club.’ But I don’t see it with any other club. Why do Celtic fans seem to have an entitlement for the board to speak and tell them what they are doing every time?”

Sutton: “So, everybody wants to know what the plan is. We are talking about Celtic’s transfer policy. Everybody has been in the dark about that. There doesn’t seem to be a plan. There doesn’t seem to be a strategy.

“If their fans pay their hard-earned money, they are sort of entitled in a way to know what is going on and what the club’s process is with that. I think we understand what other clubs’ transfer policies are, and the way other clubs run, nobody understands what Celtic are playing at – why can’t fans be ambitious?”

The first set of many protests from the Celtic fans

Let’s be honest, the Celtic fans who walked into the Killie game at Rugby Park in the 12th minute had good intentions.

But it was a bit of a damp squib, and it didn’t feel like it really did much.

However, in the coming weeks, especially with Celtic’s first home game, since everything took a turn for the worse, on the horizon, the upcoming protests will be a lot louder.

It’s pretty clear, the Celtic supporters won’t quieten down until changes are made.
