Celtic have sat back as Rangers have continued to be the gift that keeps on giving in Scottish football.
Even during such a chaotic and broken campaign for Celtic, they still managed to secure the domestic double, while those across Ibrox finished third in what was supposed to be a two-horse race.
Frank McAvennie certainly enjoyed Celtic’s trophy success last season, but he is still having a great laugh after hearing Rangers’ call to drop ‘Simply the Best’, which has been played before every match at Ibrox for a very long time now.
But as many of the Celtic Park faithful would have heard, the champions of Scotland have become so comfortable that they can now nick their rivals’ anthem, make it their own, and even force them to drop it.
That’s the rumours that are surfacing ahead of the new campaign, and McAvennie just found it all very funny, as he stated on his Let Me Be Frank Podcast.
McAvennie: “I think it’s funny. They have dropped it. They have dropped it for the new season.”
Simon Houston: “So I believe, aye.”
McAvennie continues to laugh: “Brilliant. I don’t know if it’s the team or the supporters that took over at Ibrox.”
Houston: “I am pretty sure if Rangers were to beat Celtic early next season. I am pretty sure they will get simply the best back on.”
McAvennie: “I don’t think so. It’s a good laugh.”

Sum up Rangers looking to drop ‘Simply the Best’ for next season in one word…
What do we think Celtic fans? 😂😂😂
Celtic have ‘taken over’ as Rangers set to drop ‘Simply the Best’ from Tina Turner
In case you missed it, after Celtic won the title last season, following that thrilling last-day victory over Hearts, the players started to rage-bait those across Glasgow.
Several players, including captain Callum McGregor, were singing ‘Simply the Best’ by Tina Turner in the Parkhead dressing room.
But there are rumours now surfacing, ahead of the 2026/27 season, that Rangers are set to drop their well-known and long-used anthem.
It has left McAvennie having a right chuckle, as he added that Celtic have ‘taken over.’
Simon Houston: “Do you think he (McInnes) will take Braga (to Rangers)?”
McAvennie: “I think they would love to take him, whether they allow it because they have lost their song.”
Houston: “All we hear is radio Braga.”
McAvennie: “They will need to get that because they have lost the other one.”
Houston: “What? ‘Simply the best.'”
McAvennie: “Simply the best? Celtic have taken over.”
Houston: “What do you think of that?”
McAvennie: “I think it’s funny. They have dropped it. They have dropped it for the new season.”
Houston: “So I believe, aye.”

It’s not the only thing Rangers have been forced to change…
The season before last, Celtic beat Rangers in a thrilling penalty shootout at Hampden to win the League Cup.
That game resulted in Celtic becoming the most successful club in Scotland.
As a result, it forced those at Ibrox to change a sign at their stadium, which previously read: ‘The World’s Most Successful Football Club’, and then a row of their trophies.
That has since been changed to ‘Welcome to Rangers Football Club.’
Just brilliant, never change Rangers. Never change. Normal service will continue next season, and it will be even sweeter because Derek McInnes is swapping Hearts for the Gers.
