‘From living down south’ – Celtic told there’s something fans ‘haven’t seen’ from Jeffrey Schlupp

Jeffrey Schlupp is having quite the impact since moving to Celtic.

Let’s be honest, there was an air of frustration when Celtic’s January transfer was concluded because many felt that the squad was weaker.

For one, Kyogo Furuhashi left and he wasn’t replaced, so off the bat, the powers that be didn’t help themselves.

Then, Alex Valle’s loan spell was cut short, despite the Barcelona star showing a lot of promise and looking like a top and upcoming left-back.

Many thought this could signal the start of Kieran Tierney returning to his boyhood club right away, but it wasn’t meant to be and fans now have to wait until the summer.

That’s when Jeffrey Schlupp arrived on deadline day and it was a bit of a damp squib because he was the only name to enter the building.

But fast forward to the present and the on-loan Crystal Palace star has made quite the impact.

Celtic told what they haven’t seen from Jeffrey Schlupp yet

Despite playing very little this season and not having that sharpness, Schlupp has come in and taken the number one starting spot from Greg Taylor.

From Schlupp’s performance in Munich to his recent display as Celtic beat Hibernian to progress into the Scottish Cup semi-final, it has been fantastic.

But Ross McCormack has shared that, after living in England ‘for years and years’, Celtic fans are yet to see the other side of their loan capture and that’s the ‘amount of positions he can play’, as he told Open Goal.

“See the big thing with him is from living down south for years and years,” said McCormack. “I watch a lot of football down there.

“The amount of positions he can play that Celtic fans and Scottish football fans haven’t seen yet. He plays left winger. Right winger. Number ten. Defensive midfield.

“But, you haven’t even seen him play anywhere near the level he has been playing at for years. It’s an absolute no brainer to sign him.

“People are saying, he will have to take a wage cut. No, he’s not because he’s going to be on nothing anyway because he is out of contract. There is no wage cut. How is that a wage cut?!

“You have to then take into account, unfortunately, the way Kieran Tierney is. He gets a lot of injuries. So, even if he comes as a second-choice left-back for Celtic, he can still end up playing 20 games or whatever, plus the amount of positions he could fill in.

The number of positions Schlupp has played for the past two seasons?

For the past few seasons, Schlupp has played a fair amount of games for Palace and also come off the bench when needed.

The 32-year-old played over 1,300 minutes in the Premier League alone for the previous campaign, as well as starting three domestic matches, before bowing out.

The season before that, he played a lot more, up to 2,500 minutes in the Premier League for the Eagles, and to nobody’s surprise, various roles across the pitch.
