Celtic fans have taken to TalkingPoints to react to Kasper Schmeichel’s absence from the Scottish Cup semi-final.

Schmeichel was at Manchester City vs Arsenal instead of Hampden Park, where the Hoops beat St Mirren in the semi-final.

The 40-year-old has had surgery on a shoulder injury and is expected to leave Celtic at the end of the season.

His decision to not attend is a difficult topic to debate, so we asked our 67 Hail Hail audience on TalkingPoints to give their verdict on his decision.

Celtic fans on Kasper Schmeichel not being at Hampden Park

There was a split down the middle over the Celtic goalkeeper being at the Etihad Stadium instead of watching his current employers win.

Fans have criticised Schmeichel for his performances on the pitch, but not everyone is as concerned with his issues off it.

One TalkingPoints user said: “He’s employed by Celtic and would have to have their permission to do other works so I don’t see it as a problem.”

Another fan had the opposite view, saying: “He’s not a true Celtic man. I genuinely thought he was but after last season he clearly played this season carrying an injury. Everyone could see it. God knows how the medical staff allowed him anywhere near a Celtic shirt but he was a stopgap, nothing more. He’s now proven where his loyalty is. I hope Celtic aren’t still paying him good luck to him that’s all I say now let’s move on.”

A third stated: “Doesn’t bother me he can do what he wants.”

This supporter commented: “Non issue. No big deal.”

Another wrote: “Rip up his contract.”
