Wilfried Nancy’s reign at Celtic hasn’t been a good look for Major League Soccer.
There was a lot of build-up and intrigue to Nancy’s appointment at Celtic after he arrived from MLS side Columbus Crew at the start of December.
Martin O’Neill had a strong interim spell in charge, and the Hoops were on a high, but all of that abruptly ended during Nancy’s ill-fated reign.
It lasted only 33 days, as Nancy was sacked by Celtic on Monday, losing six out of eight matches, including against Rangers over the weekend.

How the USA media reacted to Celtic sacking Wilfried Nancy
The Columbus Dispatch, based in the city where Nancy made a name for himself, ran a headline about Rod Stewart, and how he was joyful by the news.
The headline read ‘Rod Stewart rejoices ex-Crew boss Wilfried Nancy’s firing from Celtic’, as they also highlighted some of the odd things Nancy did during his time at the club.
The outlet noted the Frenchman posting a Venn diagram on social media, and how it was ‘controversial.’
ESPN ran it straight by stating, ‘Celtic sack Nancy after just 33 days and bring back Martin O’Neill.’
Another American outlet, Front Row Soccer, wrote that Nancy was ‘shown the door’ by the champions of Scotland.
It claimed, ‘that was fast, very fast’, as O’Neill’s first interim spell in charge (37 days) lasted longer than his time in Scotland (33 days).
Front Row Soccer also described Nancy’s time at Celtic as an ‘absolute nightmare’, especially considering he was ‘one of the best coaches in MLS.’
Fox Sports raised the question ‘back to the MLS?’ following Nancy’s firing, as they added that Celtic ‘wasted little time’ to get rid of their coach.
It also noted how he has the ‘worst win percentage’ of any Celtic manager in history, just 25%, after his two wins in eight games.
Another American outlet that ran with the Nancy news is Cleveland, as they noted the former Crew boss was sacked by a ‘European club’, before listing his successes in the MLS.
