Jamie Carragher questions Brendan Rodgers’ achievements at Celtic with Rangers claim

This is Brendan Rodgers’ second spell in charge as Celtic manager and it is going rather well.

That first spell was as dominant as anything you will see in Scotland for Celtic and as humiliating as ever for Rangers.

But Rodgers’ call to leave in 2019 for Leicester City didn’t go down too well with the fans and it put a dark cloud over his success.

That’s why it was a surprise that he came back when Ange Postecoglou joined Tottenham during the summer of 2023, but it’s like the Irishman never left.

The Bhoys are sleep-walking the league with a 13-point lead at the top of the Premiership table, the League Cup is in hand and everyone enjoyed the entertainment of the Scottish Cup over the weekend.

But those from the outside just don’t see Celtic’s success, they also take notice of the embarrassment of Rangers, including that defeat to Queen’s Park over the weekend.

That’s why Jamie Carragher was put right about Rodgers’ success at Celtic.

Jamie Carragher questions Brendan Rodgers’ success at Celtic as Rangers are ‘so bad’

It’s so abject for those at Ibrox that even their own legends don’t realise that Rangers have only won three out of the last 42 trophies available.

And, after that Queen’s Park result, more misery is coming their way, that’s why Carragher posed the question on the Overlap if if it ‘takes away’ from what Rodgers has achieved at Celtic.

But Celtic fan Quinny, who was a special guest, put Carragher right and pointed towards Scottish football getting ‘talked down’.

“Does anything get taken away from his (Rodgers’) achievements because Rangers are so bad,” asked Carragher.

The Celtic fan Quinny in attendance for the Overlap responded: “Not really because you see with the FA Cup games and even the result on Sunday with Rangers and Queen’s Park.

“Scottish football gets talked down and everything like that, in terms of the level. The Premier League is like the top of football in so many different ways of looking at it.

“But it’s still 11 men v 11 men. There are still referees, which we could talk about in Scotland for a full day, I suppose. There has to be context around it. But it doesn’t diminish it at all.

“The complacency is the biggest part of that you are wrestling with then and keeping everyone on the same level. Keeping the appetite.”

Carragher then asked: “You must have enjoyed that. Is that one of the biggest shocks in Scottish football of all time?”

Quinny then told Carragher: “It’s funny because the Rangers fans were putting around, ‘oh, it’s 25 years since Inverness and Celtic’. They are probably the two biggest upsets. They had a taste of their own medicine later on. That was a huge shock.”

Brendan Rodgers’ trophies as Celtic manager

The Celtic manager is on for another Treble and, unless the team shoot themselves in the foot, you can’t see why it shouldn’t be achieved.

But, as of right now, the man in the Celtic Park dugout has ten trophies to his name in Glasgow, and counting!

Brendan Rodgers trophies at Celtic
Scottish Premiership, 16/17, 17/18 & 23/24
Scottish League Cup, 16/17, 17/18, 18/19 and 24/25
Scottish Cup, 16/17, 17/18, 23/24

This doesn’t even mention the progression the Hoops have made in Europe by reaching the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Celtic’s clash against Bayern Munich is proof that things are moving forward in the long run, regardless of what happens over the two legs.
