Celtic have confirmed the addition of Joel Mvuka on transfer deadline day.

Martin O’Neill has been desperate for a winger throughout the transfer window and has seen several attempts knocked back.

It looked as if their hopes would be dead in the water after negotiations broke down with Frosinone over Fares Ghedjemis while other options Damir Redzic and Jesurun Rak-Sakyi picked moves elsewhere.

In the end the Hoops had struck a deal with Lorient for Mvuka in the region of £3m.

Things didn’t exactly go to plan after reports then claimed that a deal for Mvuka was off after he failed a medical.

That then changed once again as Celtic renegotiated the terms of the winger’s transfer so that he would join on loan with an option to buy right at the death.

And, after lots of waiting, Celtic finally got their man.

The former Bodo/Glimt man is expected to provide competition for Hyunjun Yang and with a World Cup coming up, the chance to play for Norway on the big stage was a huge motivator in his decision.

Mvuka played with Sebastian Tounekti at Bodo in Norway and revealed that he had contacted his former teammate before deciding to swap France for Scotland.

“It feels really good to finally be here,” the 23-year-old told Celtic TV.

“The thing that sits in my mind from playing at Celtic Park was before the game when the fans were singing You’ll Never Walk Alone, and I thought ‘Wow!’

“I was a team-mate of Sebastian Tounekti’s at Bodo/Glimt and I know him very well so I can’t wait to finally see him again.

“I’m a fast winger, I can play left or right, and I’m good with the ball, and I can’t wait to get started.”
