Tomas Cvancara is being tipped by Celtic to make an impact on the title race, according to Mark Guidi.

Cvancara joined Celtic this week and became Martin O’Neill’s first signing of the January transfer window after joining on loan from Borussia Monchengladbach.

The Czech striker has had a nightmare two seasons since joining the Bundesliga club from Sparta Prague, but now Cvancara is at Celtic, the 25-year-old is looking to kickstart his career.

Should Tomas Cvancara start against Hearts this weekend?

As O’Neill prepares his team to take on Hearts, Cvancara could feature for Celtic in the big top-of-the-table clash.

And it appears that people ‘behind the scenes’ at Celtic are expecting big things from their second signing of the January transfer window.

Guidi says Celtic are ‘looking for someone to come in an be an improvement’

Celtic clearly needed a new striker to come in and beef up their striking options, and it appears the club believe Cvancara will do just that.

Guidi told The Go Radio Football Show, “Yeah, I mean, they’re just looking [for someone] to help contribute to victories, it’s all about getting wins. If you can score goals, great.

“If you’re helping them with assists, you’re holding the ball up, you’re bringing others into play.

“They just lack a lot of things in the number nine area. But Maeda has been really good for Celtic, but he’s not a natural centre-forward.

“So they’re just looking for someone to come in and be an improvement on what they’ve got.”

What Celtic really think about Tomas Cvancara

And now that Cvancara has been at Celtic for a few days, it appears that the Czech striker is already impressing at his new home.

“So they believe that Cvancara can add to the team,” continued Guidi, “I believe, certainly from what people at Celtic are saying that have dealt with him behind the scenes, he’s really hungry.

“Obviously, his career has been a bit of a stop-start in the last six months, year or so. So there’s a hunger there. He absolutely gets what it’s about.

“There’s a title on the line. He wants to come in and be a champion and help Celtic retain the title in the next four months.

“And it starts on Sunday, like we say, there’s 16 games to go.”

You can listen to Guidi’s full recount below:

Celtic can buy Cvancara for €8m if he is successful after the club inserted an €8m option to buy the big striker at the end of the season.

If he can grab the goals that win the title, like Adam Idah did three seasons ago, Cvancara will become an instant hero to the Celtic supporters.
