Wilfried Nancy is probably lucky to still be in a Celtic job.

Following Celtic’s defeat to Motherwell in midweek, you sensed the tide really turning regarding how the supporters are starting to react towards Nancy.

To put it simply, many now want Nancy sacked as Celtic manager, and he will have nowhere to hide if he loses to Rangers at the weekend.

In most of the games under Nancy, the Hoops have shown they are going to score as many goals as they are going to concede, regardless of the result.

But that changed against Motherwell at Fir Park, and it left Pat Bonner in shock because he is now seeing things he hasn’t seen in a pretty long time.

Pat Bonner on being ‘very concerned’ by Celtic under Wilfried Nancy

It’s there for all to see, Celtic have dominated in Scotland for nearly two decades now, as the trophies and the Trebles speak for themselves.

Even last season, Celtic missed out on the Treble by a kick of a football, and it was seen as a huge disappointment from supporters.

But following Celtic’s defeat to Motherwell, Bonner couldn’t believe the gulf in quality between the two sides.

Speaking on BBC Radio Scotland, the legendary goalkeeper explained that, for the first time in a ‘long, long time’, he has seen the champions of Scotland being ‘outplayed’ on the domestic circuit.

Yes, Bonner has seen Celtic face troubled waters in Europe, but not to such levels in the Premiership, and now it has happened under Nancy’s stewardship.

“I am very concerned,” admitted Bonner. “Absolutely concerned.

“I haven’t seen a team for a long, long time. For a long, long time outplay Celtic from Scotland. I have seen it in Europe, but not in Scotland.

“Yes, Rangers may be at times when they played them, and that type of game or fixture. Outfought them, and stuff like that.

“But not from a footballing perspective. That was really, really worrying for me against Motherwell.”
