The wait goes on for Celtic fans.
It has been nearly a month since Brendan Rodgers left Celtic by taking a verbal boot from Dermot Desmond, but still no sign of a new manager, as Martin O’Neill continues to take charge.
All the talk has been about Wilfried Nancy, but so far, there has been nothing concrete emerging, as even Columbus Crew has suggested that no contact has been made.
So, what is really happening at Celtic? And what could Desmond be thinking?

Dermot Desmond to keep Martin O’Neill on until League Cup final?
Celtic released a statement this week stating that O’Neill will be in charge for the St Mirren match on Saturday evening. That’s a Premiership match.
But, amid the delay around Nancy, speaking on PLZ Soccer, Peter Martin says he has a ‘sneaky suspicion’ Desmond is looking to keep O’Neill on until the League Cup final next month.
“There is still no Celtic manager,” said Martin. “Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney are there. Wilfried Nancy is a constant.
“Yes, he is at the forefront of their mind. Yes, they have been speaking to him. Yes, it’s at advanced stages, and then Columbus Crew say, ‘I don’t know what you are talking about? This isn’t happening, at this moment.’
“I get the feeling that Dermot Desmond has quite simply picked three or four people that he has looked at, and he has had a chat with them.
“Now he is going to go away, and it’s not necessarily a done deal with anyone. Do you think he has had a chat with Martin to see how the land lies there?
“I have a sneaky suspicion he will let Martin lead Celtic out against St Mirren in the cup final.”
Celtic fans ‘trust’ Martin O’Neill
O’Neill will forever be a legend, and amid the negative around the club this season, including the broken relationship between the Celtic fans and the board.
As Tam McManus rightfully pointed out, one thing is for sure, and that’s the fact that Celtic fans ‘trust’ O’Neill in the dugout.
“I said it at the start, I think Martin would take the job until the end of the season,” said McManus. “I think his results have been good, bar the Europa League.
“I think they have done very well under Martin O’Neill. They have a tough game coming up at the weekend. St Mirren away is a really tricky tie.
“There’s no rush for Celtic, at the minute. I think they are in a safe pair of hands with Martin – the Celtic fans trust them to go about their business until a new manager comes in.”
