Celtic majority shareholder, Dermot Desmond is in London today to finalise a deal to make Brendan Rodgers the next Celtic manager.

According to a report in The Sun, Desmond has scheduled a fresh round of talks with the Irishman in a bid to get the deal finalised once and for all.

There is no doubt now that Rodgers is the man Celtic want to take them forward. Although the club have held talks with other candidates, should the talks go well, the 50-year-old looks set to be handed the role for the second time.

It is thought that Rodgers will be offered a huge contract and a guarantee of significant transfer funds as part of the discussions as well as having a say in how the football operation is structured to make progress in Europe.

By all accounts, it does seem as though it is just a matter of when the deal will be formalised. According to reports this morning, Rodgers is already identifying a potential backroom team with Jack Lyons and Glen Driscoll both being named as possible candidates to join him in Glasgow.

As for who could be his assistant, the club are keen to hold onto John Kennedy. Discussions have already begun to try and convince him to reject any potential move to Spurs and rekindle his partnership with Rodgers for a second time.

Dermot Desmond seems absolutely determined to get his man and is pulling out all the stops to ensure this move goes ahead.

No doubt these are exciting times for the Celtic fans. Whether you agree with the reappointment of Rodgers or not, this is a box office appointment. That coupled with the news that there are significant transfer funds available for whoever gets the Celtic job is very exciting indeed.
