Tottenham Hotspur are interviewing for backroom staff as Celtic continue to rebuff the advances of Ange Postecoglou and his desire to bring John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan to London.
Postecoglou was appointed at Spurs last week and is widely reported to want the senior Celtic coaches to follow him to the English Premier League.
Celtic are said to have given the ‘cold shoulder’ to official Spurs approaches for the pair, despite Kennedy making it clear he would like to explore the opportunity of continuing with the Australian.
The Daily Mail now reports that, with talks between the clubs ongoing, Spurs are now looking at alternative options and external candidates to fill positions in the event a pursuit of Kennedy and Strachan doesn’t come off. Interviews are said to be underway already, with former Chelsea and Bayern Munich man Paul Clement one of the names in the frame.
With Celtic potentially appointing Brendan Rodgers as manager this week, it’ll be interesting to see how the coaching situation plays out. Kennedy and Rodgers were close colleagues during the Irishman’s spell as boss and theoretically his arrival could convince the long-serving Celtic man to stay.
It’s easy to understand why the Bhoys haven’t rushed into anything and not allowed Kennedy to leave before anything major has been decided within the football department.

If Kennedy still wants to go following the appointment of a new manager then Celtic shouldn’t stand in his way. It’s no use having someone with their head turned in such an important role heading into the new season.
For now, though, Spurs are at least entertaining the possibility that a Lennoxtown raid may not come off. Celtic are well within their rights to protect coaching assets that Postecoglou inherited in the first place.
