Ross McCormack issues brutal message to Rangers about the gap to Celtic and San Francisco 49ers

The post-split fixtures are out, and Celtic can now plan out their title party.

In truth, there have been a fair few parties planned, but Celtic have just shot themselves in the foot and ended up delaying the inevitable.

But fast forward to the present, and Celtic need a point at Dundee United on April 26 to be crowned champions of Scotland for the 14th time out of the last 15 seasons.

Even with Brendan Rodgers’ side not being at their best in 2025, the champions-elect are still on course to win the Treble.

Whether it’s Rodgers’ first spell or now his return, it’s pure dominance from the Irishman once again, as Rangers watch on in the background after changing yet another manager.

There are some deluded Rangers pundits who think the Celtic and Rangers gap isn’t that big, but Ross McCormack isn’t falling down that hole.

Rangers told San Francisco 49ers won’t spend big to close Celtic gap

Rangers could have new owners by the summer, with suggestions that the San Francisco 49ers, who have an association with Leeds United, are looking to buy the club.

That has brought an air of optimism and hope at Ibrox, but McCormack, who played at Elland Road, quickly shut that down and stated he ‘can’t see’ the 49ers spending like the Rangers fans think they will, as he told Open Goal.

McCormack didn’t hold back in what he thought about the gap, and thinks it’s going to take ‘a lot longer’ than people think.

“I think it’s going to take a lot longer than next year, to be honest,” said McCormack. “I think Celtic are that far ahead, aye.

“I think a lot of the Rangers fans are probably thinking that these new owners are going to come in and throw a lot of money at it. I can’t see that happening.

“I think it’s going to take Rangers a few transfer windows, not even just to get the right players in, but also to get some of the players that are there out of the building.”

Celtic’s dominance and trophies under Brendan Rodgers

Rodgers alone is winning more trophies at Celtic than Rangers have been during the best part of the last 15 years.

That one title under Steven Gerrard is still being celebrated, but over Rodgers’ two spells, he hasn’t lost a single title campaign, and that has continued.

Hopefully, Rodgers pens a new Celtic contract, because it’s scary to think of the numbers he could hit.

Rodgers’ Celtic record
3x Scottish champion
3x Scottish Cup winner
4x League Cup winner
16 wins against Rangers
189 wins as Celtic manager
2.29 Points Per Game
