Sebastian Tounekti has provided Celtic with some encouraging news after he was spotted training with his national team.

Tounekti missed Tunisia’s World Cup qualifier last week due to injury, sparking fears that he may be out for some period of time.

It comes after Daizen Maeda left Japan’s national team squad due to injury, which could provide the chance for Michel-Ange Balikwisha to shine for the Hoops.

Thankfully, it’s good news for Brendan Rodgers.

Sebastian Tounekti in contention for Tunisia’s World Cup qualifier

Tunisia still have another game to play in their World Cup qualifying campaign and face Namibia.

Tounekti has already helped Tunisia reach the World Cup, so there is every chance that he could be rested to keep him fit.

So far, the 23-year-old has only made three international appearances but is expected to add to that during the Africa Cup of Nations, where Tounekti will miss games for the Hoops.

As it stands, Tunisia are unbeaten in their nine previous qualifying games and will be hoping to go a full campaign unbeaten.

Celtic need Sebastian Tounekti to rediscover early-season form

Although he has dropped off in the past couple of games, it is fair to say that Tounekti has been one of the brighter sparks in a disappointing season.

He was the man of the match on his debut in the win against Kilmarnock before scoring against Partick Thistle in the Premier Sports Cup.

With a busy run of fixtures to come, his best form is needed to bring success to Parkhead.
