Stephen Robinson told his post-match Celtic comments could warrant two SFA ‘punishments’

Celtic’s win at St Mirren lit up a weekend for the Parkhead support after the turbulence of the shambolic AGM.

The AGM was packed with controversy as the Celtic board failed to hold themselves to account to the fans and shareholders after Ross Desmond’s incredible attack on the Hoops support.

However, Celtic’s win at St Mirren at least gave the Parkhead support some joy as well as delivering Buddies boss Stephen Robinson some pain.

Robinson’s post-match Celtic comments also caused controversy as he said the match officials will ‘probably make some sort of reason up’ to explain the decision to rule out Liam Scales’ own goal for offside.

And now, former FIFA referee Mark Clattenburg has said that the Northern Irishman could be in hot water from the SFA.

Former FIFA referee Mark Clattenburg is ‘sure’ Robinson’s Celtic comments will be punished

As Celtic supporters know, Clattenburg has no ties to the Scottish game and is impartial to some of the paranoid nonsense that is spouted about match officials.

And after Clattenburg clamped Robinson’s Celtic comments yesterday, the former referee now says an SFA charge could be heading the St Mirren boss’ way.

Clattenburg told 67 Hail Hail, “I am sure the Scottish Football Association will be first writing to Stephen Robinson of St Mirren to ask about his comments made in the recent match against Celtic.

“After writing to Robinson for his observations, I am sure he could be issued with a fine or punishment from coaching on the touch line.”

The Celtic precedent the SFA set that now must be followed

Fans will remember when Brendan Rodgers spoke out about the SFA officials in Celtic’s defeat to Hearts back in March 2024.

Rodgers labelled the match officials that day as ‘incompetent’ and was served with a two match touchline ban, with one suspended for the comments.

Robinson is hinting at something far more serious with his comments and after how the SFA dealt with the former Celtic boss, it’s fair and just that they show consistency and take action against the St Mirren boss.
