Wilfried Nancy told by Columbus Crew’s Max Arfsten that they lost their edge before Celtic move

Wilfried Nancy’s credentials have been dealt another blow after Columbus Crew star Max Arfsten admitted that the side lost their edge under him before he made the switch to Celtic.

Nancy was sacked by Celtic after 33 days, officially ranking as one of the worst managers in the club’s existence with just two wins from eight games.

Before that, the Frenchman had earned a reputation for being one of the most exciting coaches in the MLS, particularly with the work he had done at Columbus Crew.

US experts said Celtic would fall in love with Nancy. That didn’t happen and it seems that players at his former club also found it difficult towards the end.

Max Arfsten explains why Wilfried Nancy lost his edge at Columbus Crew

Possession was a huge part of the Frenchman’s gameplan but there never seemed to be a cutting edge to the side. The team endured a lot of sideways and backwards passes were endured, all without creating chances.

New Columbus Crew boss Henrik Rydstorm is planning to make tactical tweaks to change that and defender Max Arfsten admitted that a refresh is what they need as they begin life without Nancy.

He said: “I think last year there was a lot of times when we’d have the ball the majority of the game. And sometimes we’d go side to side too much or maybe not be as threatening as we’d like.

“So I definitely think there’s an element of we can attack quicker when we have the ball and have more of a purpose with the ball.”

What do you think is the main reason Wilfried Nancy couldn’t buy a win as Celtic manager? 🤔

Wilfried Nancy’s next job prospects after Celtic failure

At the moment of writing, Nancy is yet to walk into a new job.

French side Saint-Etienne were briefly linked with the 48-year-old but nothing has advanced on that so far.

There is a lack of jobs that would be considered reasonable for him right now and after the nightmare spell in Glasgow, it may be wise to sit back and wait a little longer.
