The big lesson Celtic’s new summer signings learned in tough win vs Ross County

Brendan Rodgers’ recruitment this summer seems to be working a treat at Celtic as they continued their unbeaten domestic start against Ross County at the weekend.

Rodgers made seven new additions to his team and so far all of his new recruits barring Viljami Sinisalo have made their debuts for the club.

The Hoops support have enjoyed an unbeaten start to the domestic campaign after Celtic blew away the likes of Rangers, Kilmarnock, St Johnstone and Hibs to name but a few.

However, at the weekend, Celtic’s new summer signings found out what playing for the Bhoys is all about after they huffed and puffed against Don Cowie’s side in the 2-1 win.

New Celtic recruits learn the toughness of the Scottish Premiership

Before Celtic beat Ross County on Sunday, Rodgers’ team were racking up goals as they walked all over the domestic competition.

Celtic had racked up six wins scoring 20 without reply before the trip to Dingwall as the new summer additions made an instant impact.

However, The Staggies showed the new Bhoys that they would not get everything their own way in Scotland after a Ronan Hale penalty put County 1-0 up against Celtic at halftime.

It took the Parkhead club until the 76th minute to draw level as a deflected shot off Celtic defender, Alistair Johnston found its way into the back of the Ross County net.

Nicolas Kuhn wrapped up Celtic’s win with three minutes of regulation time left as the Dingwall club made Rodgers work hard for his win and it was the first time the Parkhead club were made to sweat domestically this season.

What Brendan Rodgers said about Celtic needing to grind out results

Hopefully, this is a lesson the Celtic players take on board because although the talent and transfer budget Brendan Rodgers has at his disposal is vast, no wins are guaranteed at the Parkhead club.

And that is what Rodgers was keen to hammer home as he spoke after watching his Celtic team struggle against Ross County.

Speaking post-match, Rodgers sent his Celtic players a message after the Dingwall win, “In the aftermath of the midweek game, I said I’ve got absolutely 100 per cent confidence in the resilience of this team.

“That’s all about grit and determination and fight and we had that in the bucket loads. We had to show that and the players did.

“We’ll learn from the game today because the new guys coming in will see that there’s no easy game and you can’t look for it either. You’ve got to do the work and over the course of the 90 minutes we did the work and got the result.”

Celtic’s next big test comes in the shape of Aberdeen as Jimmy Thelin brings his team to Glasgow for the top-of-the-table clash after the international break.

The supporters and Rodgers will be keen to see a marked improvement in Celtic’s Ross County performance to keep their 100% start to the league intact and increase their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.
