Transfer activity is firmly on Celtic’s agenda this summer, with potential for further arrivals this week after Viljami Sinisalo’s announcement.
The Finland international has joined from Aston Villa for £1 million and is settling into life as a Hoops player with his new teammates in the United States.
Kasper Schmeichel passed his Celtic medical and is set to join Sinisalo at any minute, solving the question hanging over the goalkeeper position [Farzam Abolhosseini].
Reports have indicated that Paulo Bernardo could sign a four-year contract at the Scottish Premiership holders worth £17,470 per week. This follows news that an initial fee of £3.5 million has been agreed for his services.
Nevertheless, the Adam Idah situation goes on amid ongoing talks between Celtic and Norwich City to resolve his future.
Celtic, Norwich City and Adam Idah latest
Reportage of Idah’s situation has been varied this summer, but the facts are that he is a Norwich player and will remain so until circumstances change, hopefully, sooner rather than later.
Travelling with the Canaries to their pre-season camp in Belgium, the Cork-born frontman started for the Sky Bet Championship outfit against Club Brugge yesterday, lasting 33 minutes before being substituted off by Johannes Hoff Thorup in a planned change.

The optimists among us would’ve hoped that was because he had a flight to catch to Glasgow at half-time; however, away from lighthearted jokes, his manager has outwardly expressed his excitement to see what he can achieve at Carrow Road this term.
Thorup stated post-match: “Important for him to get in and have some minutes again, and I think we could see what he can support this team with. So it’s nice to have him back on the pitch, and I think he will be a valuable player for us.”
Of course, the public already know that Norwich rejected early Celtic advances for Idah. That doesn’t mean he won’t end up back at Parkhead, but he will continue to be considered for selection while his possibilities remain open. It also leads on to my next point.
Celtic need to identify Adam Idah alternatives if time drags on
Celtic only have Kyogo Furuhashi on the books as a centre-forward following Hyeongyu Oh’s recent departure to Genk, signifying the striking position is an area that simply has to be strengthened.
Should Idah’s situation drag on for weeks to come, the club should really be doing due diligence on alternative targets if Norwich proves difficult to deal with in the transfer market.
As it stands, Furuhashi will hold the fort on his solo against Kilmarnock on Flag Day, which takes place in a little over two weeks. Contingency plans may not always be centred around the preferred choice to fill berths, but there has to be variety in case the Hoops can’t get over the line.
Hopefully, it won’t come to that. The Irishman loved his time at Parkhead last season and would be a great fit for Brendan Rodgers’ long-term vision. Nevertheless, time is of the essence in the hunt for reinforcements.
